HC Cal State LA: What made you choose Cal State LA?
Gerardo: The area, the location. It was also very affordable. I mean, California right?
HC Cal State LA: What does your daily routine look like?
Gerardo: Running around from class to work to the library to the dorms. Leaves me out of breath by 6pm. And then I just go to the gym and watch movies or TV shows. I like the Simpsons a lot.
HC Cal State LA: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Gerardo: I see myself in my own apartment in San Francisco near Japantown. I’m going to bring the nomadic lifestyle before I settle down. I want to settle down pretty late.
HC Cal State LA: What qualities do you look for in a significant other?
Gerardo: Imagine every possible cliché in every Tinder and OkCupid account. I would emphasize humor, wit and spontaneity.
HC Cal State LA: What is your favorite place in the city?
Gerardo: I like to go to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena and stare at the paintings. I really like the impressionist side, but I also like the 16th and 17th century self-portraits.
HC Cal State LA: What hobbies do you have outside of your major?
Gerardo: I’m in Honors College and work at the campus newspaper. Working at the University Times gives me journalism experience. I like to learn languages so I take classes at community centers. I speak 4 languages. Right now I’m taking Russian at the Monterey Park community center. I like to play any sport except soccer. Oh and I like to read books, usually all genres.
HC Cal State LA: Do you have a favorite band or a favorite movie?
Gerardo: I don’t have favorites, I’m very fickle and my favorites correspond to my moods. Right now I’m into Jurassic 5, Electric Guest, and Depeche Mode. My favorite song on replay currently is Behind the Wheel by Depeche Mode.
HC Cal State LA: Do you have any pets?
Gerardo: Yeah, I’ve had a lot of pets. I’ve had a scorpion! And technically I had a dragonfly for a pet, but I only had it for a month.
HC Cal State LA: Any fun facts?
Gerardo: I have dual citizenship with America and Mexico! I was raised in Lagos de Moreno, which is described today as the Venice of Mexico. I’m left handed and I laugh at my own jokes every time!
