I don’t know about you, but as much as I love my iPhone I also find it very overwhelming at times. A good way to make the most of your iPhone’s power is to use apps. Apps can help to improve your life in several ways, and I have picked out 5 that you should know about:

1.    Shazam – Many of you have probably heard of this one. It is one of my all time favorite apps. Ever been in a store, your car, or restaurant and want to know the song that is currently playing? All you have to do is hold down the button on this app and it will try and decode the song for you. From there you can easily purchase it or listen to it for free!

2.    ShopWell – I know in college it can be hard to eat healthy, especially on a budget. ShopWell has become one of the most useful apps on my iPhone. You can search food types or go to the grocery store, scan an item, and it will come up with the healthiest version of that food. You can even opt for a vegetarian or gluten free diet. It is easy to sign up and even easier to use.

3.    My Little Closet. This app allows you to take photos of your clothes, sort them by pieces of clothing, color brand, and size. I love this because having some clothes here and some at home, I can get an idea of what top I should put with my jeans by just browsing what I had entered into my app. It can take time to upload the photos, but you don’t have to do every single piece of clothing you own. I started with all my jeans because I had such a variety of colors and styles and from there I am slowly adding tops and other pieces of clothing. To run through how it works: You pick the clothes you wish to add to your “little closet” then you click what category whether it be a blouse, scarf, jacket, dress etc. you fill out the type, brand, color, and style, and you can take a photo to store in the app as well. So then when you want to go back and see options of shirts you have you can just click on the category of clothing you wish to look at,and scroll through your inventory.

4.    8 Track. Do you ever feel like you need to change up your music when you are studying or on a run? Pandora and iHeart Radio are great options to find new music, but a friend told me about 8 Track and I can’t get enough. 8 Track allows you to pick genres of music from “summer” to “happy” to “relax” to “acoustic.” From there, you can mix and match what you are in the mood to listen to. You can also click on playlists that their staff picks. Each playlist consists of 8 tracks with the song title, artist and purchase options.

5.    MapMyRun. There are so many workout apps: Nike running apps, pedometer apps, and I have tried a good amount of them. However, the only one I have stuck with is MapMyRun. Download this free app and you can get started. Once you start running, press start and it tracks how far you’ve gone, your heart rate, number of steps, calories burned, and more. What I like about this app is it talks to you when you’ve walked or run a mile. Also, it tells you your average pace after each mile. You can then save your workout when you’re done. It is simple and easy to use. It also has the ability to log your food, and find friends who are also using the app. Download it and get active!
