Winter Shopping!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Entering into this wintery season we are looking for both comfort and cuteness. This is the season of sweaters and scarves, boots and beanies. Here are some must have winter essentials!

“The Final Layer”

I like to call this the final layer because it’s the perfect last layer to a warm sweater or a cozy flannel. The vest! I personally love my vest because it is soft on the inside so it keeps my body warm without feeling too weighed down by the layers. They are a perfect finishing touch to a flannel or sweater. They are also easy to pack and not a hassle to carry indoors.

Beanies

Coming from California, as the cold weather set in, I found myself on the hunt for a perfect beanie. I was looking for warmth but at the same time I wanted something cute. It is fun to have a colorful hat but at the same time it is important to have a neutral one to wear with a fun shirt! Make sure to try on as many as you need to find the perfect fit, color, and warmth. There are also several types: knitted, thermal, sporty. I found myself gravitating toward a cute knitted beanie that is efficient in both warmth and style.

Boots

This is officially the season of boots! A personal must-have for me was a pair of hunter boots. Another trend is combat boots! They’re simple and stylish and go well with flannels and sweaters. Another type of boot that is perfect for the Pacific Northwest are Timberland snow boots! They’re comfy, practical, and cute!

Scarves

Although I love the saying “A girl can never have too many scarves,” it is hard to afford all that we want as college students. There are two types of scarves: infinity scarves and regular scarves. Within those types you can have a knitted scarf or a cloth one. That variety is makes it very difficult to choose. The recent trend is infinity scarves. They are easy to loop around your neck without having to tuck in loose ends. Entering into the snowy season, it is smart to buy a knitted scarf becuase they provide the most warmth. The rest is preference: the knitting pattern, the type of yarn and the color!
