13 Best Thanksgiving TV Episodes

On Thanksgiving we sit down with our families to eat delicious food and to be thankful for all that we have and those who are with us in life. Once our lunch or dinner ends, and our stomachs feel like they will pop at any moment, we sit around the TV for some relaxation and more holiday spirit. If nothing is on TV, open up Netflix, because here’s 13 episodes that need to be watched this Thanksgiving season.

1. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving (1973): This short TV movie is a timeless classic that comes on every year. In the opening clip, Lucy persuades Charlie to kick the football she’s holding. Charlie doesn’t want to, because he thinks Lucy will pull it away at the last second. Lucy convinces him to kick the ball by saying that it’s a Thanksgiving tradition. Charlie goes to kick the ball and ends up flat on his back like he thought he would. The scene then transitions to Charlie and Sally preparing to go to their grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving, but Patty invites herself over and all of their friends to have a dinner at Charlie’s house. When Linus comes over, he convinces Charlie to have two Thanksgivings, one with his friends and one with his grandmother. But Charlie admits he cannot cook. Tune in your TV to find out if the gang gets their holiday dinner and if Charlie ever makes if over to his grandmother’s house.

2. Beauty and the Beast: Season 2, Episode 7: “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”: Vincent, who has the ability to shift into a creature that has a human-like appearance, but the mind of a beast, recently had his life in danger. Because of this, Cat, whom Vincent saved as a teenager, decides that the two of them should go have Thanksgiving with her father so she could get some information about Vincent’s missions. Gabe, who secretly loves Cat, and Tori, who secretly loves Vincent, both join in the festivities of this holiday celebration. Find out what happens when true feelings are revealed and secrets are discovered.

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 4, Episode 8: “Pangs”: When Xander accidentally releases a spirit who wants revenge, the gang realize how much trouble they’re in on this holiday. However, since Joyce, Buffy’s mom, has decided she’s going to be out of town during Thanksgiving, Buffy decides that she’s going to make a dinner for her and her friends. The spirit makes Xander very sick, Angel is back in town secretly protecting Buffy, Spike comes over because he’s hungry and cannot bite people anymore and the spirits start attacking the gang as they’re getting ready for their dinner. Watch this action filled episode to see if they get to enjoy their holiday dinner.

4. Disney’s Doug: Season 2, Episode 7: “Doug’s Thanksgiving”: Nickelodeon started out the Doug series but the creator handed it over to Disney. Doug is set in the fictional town of Bluffington. In this holiday special Episode, a friend of the mayor, Bill Bluff, is told by his public relations firm to have his thanksgiving dinner with “an average Bluffington family” to boost his popularity. When Doug’s family is chosen, their simple plans get wildly turned upside down. Patti, Doug’s friend, is told she cannot join them because Bluff will be there. Judy, Doug’s sister, doesn’t like how Bluff is preparing for this holiday. Doug takes it on himself to make everyone happy. Watch this silly cartoon to find out if Doug succeeds!

5: Friends: Season 5, Episode 8: “The One with All the Thanksgivings: When Ross complains that his divorce and eviction mean he’s having the worst Thanksgiving ever, the others decide to tell their own stories of their worst Thanksgivings. Chandler reminds everyone about the Thanksgiving where he found out his parents were getting divorced. Phoebe decides to tell a story of a past life when she was a nurse and she lost an arm. Rachel says she knew Monica’s story, but then Phoebe interrupts with the story about Joey having a turkey stuck on his head. When Monica ends up telling the story about how in 1987 Chandler called her fat, Rachel says she was talking about a different Thanksgiving and proceeds to tell the story of 1988 where Monica had slimmed down and ended up dropping a knife on Chandler’s foot, cutting off his toe. Chandler is mad that he lost his toe because he called Monica fat, so he storms out. Watch this hilarious episode to find out how Monica cheers up Chandler in the end!

6. Full House: Season 1, Episode 9: “The Miracle of Thanksgiving”: Danny and the girls’ first Thanksgiving without Pam comes filled with a lot of emotion. Danny wants to make this day extra special for the girls. However, Grandma is unable to make it, so Danny, Joey, and Jesse decide to just get restaurant reservations. But the girls insist on having the regular festivities at home. When the turkey ends up frozen, a pie smashed, and lots of tears are shed, the family has one more challenge to get through. Tune into this episode to find out which family member still hasn’t come to terms with Pam’s death and see how the family helps them get through.

7. Gilmore Girls: Season 3, Episode 9: “A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving”: Rory and Lorelai find themselves with four invitations to Thanksgiving dinner: Kim’s, Suki’s, Luke’s, and Richard and Emily’s. The two of them decide that it won’t matter if they miss Luke’s, however, Luke seems really upset when they say they cannot come, so they change their plans to come. Rory, who has just broken up with Dean, finds it uncomfortable being publicly affectionate with Jess. The two end up attending all four Thanksgivings. Find out what happens when Rory lets slip she’s applied to Yale, and when Dean watches Jess kiss Rory.

8. Gossip Girl: Season 4, Episode 10: “Gaslit”: Blair discusses with Dorota her Thanksgiving plans. She’s really adamant against Serena for what she did to Chuck at his party in the previous episode. So, she wants to leave New York and fly to Paris to spend Thanksgiving with her father. Dorota slowly persuades her to stay, by mentioning making Blair’s father’s pumpkin pie and sending it over to the van der Woodsens herself and making Serena apologize. Meanwhile, at the van der Woodsen apartment, Lily is letting out her frustrations of Serena just dropping out of college with Connor. At other spots in the city, Dan and Vanessa discuss spending their Thanksgiving together, while Nate incidentally receives his parents’ divorce papers. When Blair and Dorota arrive at the van der Woodsen apartment, giving Lily the pie, they all start to question where Serena is and realize she’s missing. Find out what happened to Serena and how they all end up spending their holidays.

9. Hey Arnold: Season 3, Episode 14: “Arnold’s Thanksgiving”: Arnold and Helga are just sick of their families Thanksgiving celebrations. So, they meet up and decide to go to their teacher, Mr. Simmons’ house for Thanksgiving. After an evening with him and his family, they realize that their own families Thanksgiving celebrations aren’t all that bad. If you want some nostalgia, go and watch Arnold and Helga celebrate their Thanksgiving together.

10. How I Met Your Mother: Season 3, Episode 9: “Slapsgiving”: It’s the gang’s first Thanksgiving together with Lily and Marshall as a married couple. Lily is obsessing over everything trying to make sure it’s perfect, Robin decides to bring her older boyfriend Bob, to the Thanksgiving dinner, and Marshall is terrorizing Barney with his third slap. When Robin and Ted are the only ones that show up to the pie baking night, they realize how awkward they’ve become since breaking up. They fight, but end the night having sex. Barney gets upset at the notion of another slap, so Lily decides that no slaps will happen on Thanksgiving Day. On Thanksgiving, Lily and Robin decide that Robin and Ted need to talk out what happen. Will Robin and Ted actually get to talk? Will Barney get his slap? Find out by watching this eventful and comedic holiday themed episode this Thanksgiving.

11. Modern Family: Season 3, Episode 9: “Punkin Chunkin”: The episode begins with the three houses in arguments. First at Phil and Claire’s house, they get a visit from their neighbor’s kid Kenneth, who idolizes Phil and tells the family he has dropped out of college and is making billions because of something fill said, to “follow his heart”. Haley jumps in and says that it’s not bad to go to college and follow your dreams instead. This makes Claire upset and Phil tells her that she’s always holding him back from his dreams. Meanwhile, in Jay and Gloria’s house, Jay tries to give Manny some constructive criticism, however, Gloria stops him all the time. Jay tries to convince Gloria that it’s okay to tell Manny he’s not perfect at everything, but she doesn’t understand. And finally, Cameron and Mitch are out with friends and Cam is offended when Mitch does not feel good about his stories and questions the authenticity of them. So on Thanksgiving, Cam, Phil, and Gloria are divided from Jay, Mitch, and Claire. Find out what happens when Cam takes them all to a football field to prove his story about punkin chunkin.

12. New Girl: Season 1, Episode 6: “Thanksgiving”: Jess invites Paul, a fellow teacher with whom she has a crush on, to Thanksgiving dinner at the apartment she shares with Nick, Schmidt, and Winston. Cece, Schmidt, and Winston warm up to Paul. Nick does not. While cooking dinner, Cece, Jess’s best friend, becomes attracted to Schmidt. 13. Rugrats: Season 4, Episode 16: “The Turkey Who Came to Dinner”: Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, and Lil try to defend a live turkey that Grandpa wins from being their Thanksgiving dinner. Stu and Drew try to watch football, but the satellite dish is not working. Didi, Charlotte, and Betty try to find food for the Thanksgiving dinner but end up arguing over the groceries. Angelica wishes to throw a parade. For some serious nostalgia and funny characters, sit down and enjoy this episode of Rugrats to find out what happens to the turkey and Angelica’s parade.
