It’s that time of the year again when the entire country gets together in order to raise money for one of the biggest charity, Children In Need. And in true CIN style on the 14th of November millions of people sat down together to watch the massive TV gala held in its honour. Every year it seems to get bigger with more acts of kindness and famous celebs than previous years. This year was no exception with Donny Osmond, The Script and Martin Freeman all making an appearance!
Musicals
Three of this year’s massive musicals joined Sir Terry Wogan and his band of presenters to spread the generous spirit. Charlie and Chocolate Factory brought its glass elevator, Gemma Arterton led the Made In Dagenham ladies in protest and the Irish-based West End and Broadway hit Once gave everyone goose bumps.
S Club 7
Adults and teenagers up and down the country screamed their hearts out as 90’s favourite S Club 7 reformed for this one night. They performed a melody of their hits including Reach for the Stars and Don’t Stop moving which had everyone on their feet. Could this be the start of a permanent reform for the band?
Rixton
New hit boy band Rixton performed their new song Wait On Me. Also the boys spent some time in The Old Vic where they were interviewed Shane Richie. Shane took this opportunity with both hands as a way to wind up his son and the band front man, Jake.
Eastenders
One of the countries most recognised soaps was back again to help Pudsey raise money. Every year they come back with a musical special and this year was no different with the cast taking on Grease! They didn’t just stop at singing either as the cast members helped present throughout the night as well as lending The Old Vic as a set for One Direction and The Script performances. Ian Beale also gave us a strange and weird special as he was visited by some of the streets most loved deceased characters.
One Direction
Performing over Walford to hundreds of fans it wasn’t surprising that the noise levels were high. The boys performed two new songs for the crowd as well as watchers home called Steal My Girl and Night Changes. Liam and Harry also helped to tell one of the heart breaking stories of the night about 17 year old Ryan who was hit by a lorry when cycling to work. Ryan was left with substantial injuries but has been making amazing progress through The Children’s Trust which is funded by Children In Need.
Boyzone
The 90’s boy band looked very posh in their suits as they played a fun game of higher or lower beards as well as performing the old classic Reach Out.
Final total
The final total of the night smashed the 2013 record of £31.1 million. The final total was a massive £32,260,469 which host Terry Wogan responded to in complete shock saying. “I am thunderstruck, astounded and just astonished.”
