SF State Women’s Basketball Aims To Change Things Around After Losing Season Opener

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at San Francisco chapter.

SF State is excited to cheer on the women’s Gator basketball team as we moved on from the exhibition games to the opening game of the season this week. The lady Gators hosted the opener against the Minnesota State-Moorheads this past Thursday night, and started the 2014-15 season with a 78-67 loss to the Dragons. Not only did Minnesota have an advantage over SF State in terms of the size of their players, but Minnesota’s pre-season games and reputation favor this team. The lady Gators started off the first half of the game quite well, with Gator’s forward Michelle Sutton evening the score 13-13. Other star players of the night chipped in to rack up points. Leticia Galarzo and Jasmine Flanagan collectivelly scored 22 points by the end of the first half. Minnesota then took over as they were on fire the second half, with their star player of the night Meghan Roehrich racking up an impressive 32 points, with the Dragons ultimately taking the victory at the Gator’s swamp. But this doesn’t discourage nor does it stop SF State from aiming to change things around. The lady Gators are making a fierce comeback today and are facing Notre Dame de Namur University. NDNU is hosting the game in Belmont at 1 p.m. PT.
