Cooking for Your Christmas Party: Hors D’Oeuvres to Serve

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

In the words of the classic holiday film A Charlie Brown Christmas, “Christmas time is here!” Finally, the season we’ve all been waiting for. From the sound of carols drifting through the air to snowflakes lightly falling from the sky, Christmas is a warm and loving time despite the chill of the winter.

Christmas time is about giving to others, spending time with those you love, and cherishing the little moments. And of course, it’s a time for holiday dinner parties and family get-togethers! If you’re looking for some fresh items to serve as you welcome guests, look no further. Below are some fabulous recipe options that require few ingredients and very little time to make! Whether you’re hosting your own Christmas celebration or attending one at someone else’s home, come prepared to feed hungry guests with some of these delicious hors d’oeuvres!

Appetizer #1: Caprese Skewers

These scrumptious snacks are a creative alternative to the traditional caprese salad, and are very easy to make! They involve very little preparation and call for only a few ingredients. As a big fan of caprese salad, this recipe really combines many delicious flavors.

These are the perfect hors d’oeuvre to serve if you find yourself in a bit of a time crunch and need to whip up something quickly. They are also very convenient for large groups of people because they can be served very nicely on miniature skewers. For an extra holiday touch, try using green and red skewers when making this appetizer! However, these snacks are already festive as they are – the red of the tomatoes and the green of the basil already bring some holiday colors into your meal. Find the recipe here.

Appetizer #2: Guacamole Bruschetta

Wow. What an incredible combination. I mean, look at that picture. This appetizer will certainly be a favorite for any guacamole enthusiasts. This recipe is a great option if you’re looking to spice up your usual Bruschetta recipe, or if you enjoy eating guac on a regular basis like I do. Get the recipe here.

Appetizer #3: Chipotle Shrimp Appetizer

This recipe also has guacamole as one of its main ingredients (is there such a thing as too much guac?), and is another quick and easy option for anyone with a busy holiday schedule. A fresh mix of seafood, veggies, and flavorful spices, these tasty snacks are perfect for a holiday party. Try this one here.

Appetizer #4: Parmesan Tortellini Bites

Warm up from the cold with this delicious appetizer! These bite-size snacks are utterly delectable and require very little work. Your guests won’t be able to resist these, and they’ll certainly be a hit at your holiday event. They can even be dipped in marinara sauce for an extra touch. Check out the recipe here.

Appetizer #5: Mozarrella Stuffed Meatballs

Any fan of Italian food will love this appetizer! Meatballs are a creative hors d’oeuvre option, and this recipe has a unique twist of its own. Give them a try here.

Happy Holidays, Collegiettes!
