Despite Limited Success, Zip Lock Still Giving Rap Career Earnest Attempt

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UNL chapter.

Zip Lock, also known as Nick Knopik, is a new and slowly upcoming rap artist on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s campus. He kicked off his rap career with an album, In Over My Head, which was entirely produced in his parent’s basement over the course of three months this summer. He followed up the debut of his album with a tour that started an ended with a “pity concert” at Roca Berry Farm in October. “Roughly 2,000 people showed up for my show. They try to tell me most of them just came for the farm’s attractions and I was purely there for background noise, but what I tell myself helps me sleep at night,” Knopik said.

Some things that critics are saying about In Over My Head include:

•   “At least it’s family-friendly.”

•   “He’s clearly trying too hard to be 2-Chainz.”

•   “In retrospect, my expectations for this album were too high.”

“After so much positive feedback from the dozens of people that listen to my music, I decided to actually (seriously) put together something coherent,” Knopik said. He is currently partnered up with Lincoln based Hit Children Records to attempt another shot at the rap game fame. He plans to release a second album, his first with Hit Children Records, and because Knopik set the bar so low for himself the first time around, this time he says, “the sky’s the limit.”
