Campus Celebrity: Pete Chhoy, Alspaugh Graduate Resident

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

Pete Chhoy is a Graduate Resident in Alspaugh Hall from Newton, Massachusetts. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a B.A. Psychology from The University of Notre Dame. In his spare time, Pete enjoys running, sailing, and hanging out with friends.

1. What’s your proudest accomplishment?

Being asked to give a speech at my sister’s wedding.

2. What’s your guilty pleasure?

Can I have two? My first guilty pleasure is peanut butter, and my second is What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction.

3. Where is your favorite vacation spot?

Definitely Segovia, Spain.

4. What’s the most played song on your iTunes?

All Over the Road by Easton Corbin

5. What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I am on my 33rd DukeCard and wanted to be a mechanic since high school. My ideal career would be a stay-at-home daddy.

6. Describe yourself in 3 words.

Remix to Ignition

7. What’s your most embarrassing moment?

I was a dog throughout my childhood. I loved to steal my classmate’s homework and hide from my parents all of the time. I was one of those leashed children surprisingly. Honestly, I didn’t mind it too much. I don’t like being in control anyway.

8. Describe your perfect day.

So my perfect morning, just listen to the song Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson with someone I like. And for my perfect afternoon, I would go to the gun range. I’ve always wanted to go to the gun range. Perfect date though would be picnic dinner in Duke Gardens and stargazing (falling asleep is included).

9. What makes Alspaugh the best dorm on East Campus?

I would say myself. But honestly, it’s the community of residents and staff that make this place so special. I am challenged everyday from my daily interactions with the students and I could not have found a better way to spend my last four (and final) years at Duke. This is where I learned to be a mentor, where I learned to take responsibility for someone’s well being, and it’s where I grew up. I would be nothing without these residents. They inspire me to be the best that I can be. I want to make them proud. It’s why I’ve been doing it for 4 years. #AlspaughDaddy
