Cool Places to Study Outside Of Sterne

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UAB chapter.

We’ve all had our share of times at Sterne. Whether it’s dealing with the strict Medusa on the second floor or trying to find an actual working computer when it seems like an “out of order” sign is posted on nearly every machine, not to the mention the kid who is hogging the computer trying to catch up on Netflix. All of these things can be quite annoying, but here are a few places to change up the scenery!

Seeds Coffee

174 Oxmoor Road – Homewood

This cool, hip coffee shop is located in the nearby Homewood. It features a game area and even a mini stage where many local artists perform. So, whether you’re looking to study, hear good music, or play classic board games Seeds is your spot. Even their wifi password is plastered on the wall. Open Monday – Saturday, stop by and get one of their cute lattes and snap a pic of their coffee art (cause you know you want to).

Urban Standard

2320 2nd Ave N – Historic Loft District

I’ll tell you what you shouldn’t do. Pass up an opportunity to taste some of the best grits ever in life! Not to the mention the bacon infused jam. Yas! This place was designed with students in mind. Ditch the Commons and grab a bite at Urban Standard.

O’Henry’s Coffees

2831 18th St S – Homewood

This homey spot is open every day of the week even Sundays, which is perfect for catching up on the week’s work. The brick wall adds an urban splash to the coffee shop scene. If you need to get away, come here.

Octane Coffee

2821 Central Avenue – Homewood

Located right next to Steel City Pops, this coffee shop doubles as bar. Come to get some studying done or just to hang out. They have an assortment of sweet treats to eat and even offer you a glimpse into their roasting room.

Tag us in your coffee shop photos. We want to see them! @hercampusuab
