5 Things You Miss About Home

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at High Point chapter.

Your own bed

This is undeniable. Your own bed in your own bedroom in your own house is the only bed that has kept you warm most nights over your life.  There is a sense of comfort and familiarity with your wonderful bed. You might enjoy your bed in your dorm room but there is nothing better than cozying up in your own bed.

Home-cooked Meals

We were spoiled over break with luxurious meals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Even on the ordinary days of break, we were surrounded by our mother’s or father’s or grandmother’s home-cooked meals. We were even able to cook our own meals ourselves because we finally had kitchen access.  I think we can all agree that going back to dining hall food is going to be difficult.

Your pet

This is your furry friend who is there the second your car pulls up the driveway and who cuddles with you when you sleep.  Your pet doesn’t care that you have been away at school for so long  because the second he or she sees you again, it’s like no time has passed.  Saying goodbye to them can be harder than saying goodbye to your little brother… even if you don’t like to admit it.

Your high school friends

Some people are lucky to have picked the same college as their best friends from high school.  However, there are the rest of us that are separated from these very important people for three months. After spending almost a month together over break leaving them is going to be hard. Just remember, you’re both going to have so many stories to share when you reunite again.

Privacy

This is something that we often overlook because we’re so used to it at home but going from sleeping in our own rooms in our houses to sharing our dorm rooms with our roommates is a bit of a wake-up call.  We were spoiled with the luxury of having privacy in our homes over the past month, and now we have to adapt to that lack of privacy again, much like at the beginning of the fall semester.  Cherish that last bit of privacy that you have at home, because you’ll miss it when you’re sharing your tiny room at school again.
