How To: Bubble Bath Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

Baths have never really been my thing. Girls always Instagram a picture of their feet in the bubbles, candles lit and a book in hand; I always think to myself,“Ew, you are literally sitting in your own filth”.  It never made sense why someone would sit in a tub of dirty water until I figured out the right way to take a bath.

The key to a perfect bath is to shower BEFORE you bathe. It sounds stupid but it makes sense, I promise.  First off, a bath is meant for those days you don’t feel like washing your hair so pull your hair back into a clip or a messy bun. And if you’re a guy reading this, props to you; you’re already ahead of the game. Take a quick shower to rinse your body off that way you aren’t sitting in water mixed with sweat, dirt,  lotion or any other body products from that day.

When you are done with that switch the water from the showerhead to the tub faucet. This is when you can add your bubble bath or bath salts (bath salts are meant to be used for baths, not for drugs). You could also add a teaspoon of honey to help moisturize your skin!

Baths are a great source of relaxation; they help to relieve stress and have been proven to help get rid of sicknesses such as the common cold. The recommended duration of a bath is from 10-20 minutes.

The cliché thing to do is light some candles and read a book but let’s be honest no one can read with candlelight alone. You could always pour a nice glass of wine (if you are of age) or put on some relaxing music. It’s your bath, do what you want with it. But don’t forget to Snapchat or Instagram a pic or else it didn’t actually happen.
