The rest usually follows in a frantic, face-paced flurry of gift cards, tacky birthday cards and running to the nearest Chipotle for a burrito bowl. But I’m here today to inform you that the reign of rushed, unoriginal birthday presents is over! DIY personalized mugs are the best quick and easy gifts to give to friends. I discovered the beauty of DIY mugs when I made one for my best friend. They’re incredibly simple to make, and the best part is you can personalize them however you want! Follow the tips below to ensure that you’ll never have to miss a birthday again. Have fun!
What you’ll need:-Ceramic mug (white works best, but you can use colored ones, too)-Sharpie markers-An oven
How to make it:1. Decorate your mug
My bestie loves all things Broadway, so as a going away present, I made us these matching mugs! On the front is a quote from her favorite play, Wicked, and the back has our names and hearts over where we are going to college. She loves them so much and sends me daily Snapchats of her using them! But you can do whatever you want with your mug. Write your own quote, make a patterned mug, or decoupage with a picture. I’ve even seen mugs painted with chalkboard paint so you can write on them! Whatever you do, be conscious of not smearing your work because it’s very difficult to wipe off the Sharpie once it has dried.
2. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes at 350 degrees.
I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. Let them cool for about an hour, and then they are ready to be given as a gift! After this, the mugs are dishwasher safe, but I think it’s better to be safe and hand-wash them. Congratulations; you made your first DIY mug!
