Change Is Upon Us: Library Renovations Pt. 1

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCU chapter.

On our return from winter break, us Broncos were met with some major changes. One of the vital parts of our lives as college students was altered while we were away in our homes, sipping eggnog and enjoying home cooked meals. The SCU library’s first floor was completely renovated. For some, this could have been a life altering moment, walking into the newly set up library and seeing that your favorite chair that had already been molded to your derriere had been moved to a completely different section of the floor. Other students, however, may have walked in and noticed absolutely nothing (those are the students that have probably been to the library a total of two times: once for their freshmen orientation session, and the other when they got coffee from the Sunstream Cafe because Mission Bakery was packed).

The change can be seen from the moment you pass the book detecting scanners at the entrance of the library. The help desk is the first thing you see, which saves many freshmen from awkwardly wandering around the library trying to locate someone that can tell them how to print or where the bathroom is. Behind the help desk are some new chairs—cushy, grey felt chairs with a small desk attached are perfect for students who want to lounge comfortably while doing homework.

For those students who need privacy and an environment free from distractions, there are now individual, modern style cubicles. These are not only helpful for intense studying, but are stylish and look like they came straight out of a CB2 magazine.

As you continue to explore the first floor you can see that the IT desk is now located at the back wall, leaving space for more desktop computers in the middle of the room. The renovation as a whole has been a positive change to the SCU library, but this is not the last of transformations students will see. The details of the second renovation are already being advertised in the library to get Broncos pumped about their ever-improving library.

Whether you live 23 out of your 24 hours in this library or you only go inside when you need to use the restroom, get excited to see some big changes! We can’t wait to see what we come back to after spring break…

Proud Santa Clara University freshman, Poli-Sci and Communications double major, and lover of dogs. My hobbies include reading, watching sappy old movies, and searching for a decent microwavable soup. My favorite type of food is Greek and Chipotle's Sofritas are in my Top 5 Ultimate Favorite Things About This World. I love HerCampus because it's a place where college girls can really talk about what goes through their minds throughout their 4 years in this crazy world we call school.
