Celebrity crush: “I’m in love with Katy Perry, because she gets me, but I don’t really spend time on celebrities. My celebrity man crush is definitely Logan Lerman, though… 800 million fold.”
Campus involvement: “I am involved in PIER, which is a diversity initiative on campus. CNU Spectrum which is the LGBT group on campus. Hypnotic Control and women’s club basketball!”
Have you been involved in organizing anything for the groups you are in?: “I organized Coming Out Day and True Life! I’m in charge of this film festival and I’m planning drag ball this year too.”
Tell us about the film festival: “Basically it’s the Hampton Roads LGBTQIA film festival and this is its third year running. It’s a film festival to help facilitate discussion on the topics of LGBT-related issues through film. All the movies that are shown touch on different aspects of the LGBT community, so this year in particular we have one that relates to religion and sexual orientation, sexual orientation and the military, and Trans – which is CNU’s event.”
When is Trans? “February 5th (this Thursday); doors open at 6 and it starts at 6:30 in the black box studio theater. It’s an Honors and PLP event and there’ll be free food and a panel discussion afterwards!”
Hobbies: “I play guitar, drums, piano and sing too. Most of my hobbies include anything dealing with music.”
Passions: “Videography and photography. I also really love educating others on LGBTQIA+ topics too (alphabet soup).”
Role model(s)?: “My parents have inspired me to do a lot of things in life, but as far as role models go I’ve never had someone that makes me think, ‘I want to be like them.'”
If you could hang out with anyone for a day who would it be and why?: “My best friend and brother Charlie because I haven’t seen him in, like, six months.”
Favorite part about CNU so far: “I love the size; I think it allows for a lot of opportunity to get involved and I feel like I can make a big impact on my campus. I don’t really think I could do that on a bigger campus.”
Biggest accomplishment thus far: “My senior year of high school I won a scholarship for being an out and proud LGBT athlete… I got money for being myself – that’s one of the coolest things I have ever accomplished. I got to go to George Washington University and talk to a lot of people, and I was featured in the Washington Blade (a leading LGBT newspaper).”
What do you identify as?: “The way I describe myself is my sex is female, my sexual orientation is gay, and my identity is gender hybrid… I’m like a queer.”
Goals for the future: “I tell people all the time this infinite list of things that I want to accomplish… In CNU I want to see a change in the amount of diversity in this campus – I want to leave a lasting impact on CNU’s community.”
Describe yourself in 3 words: “Oh god… I wanna say I’m confident, approachable, and I always act with good intentions.”
Favorite band/music: [grabs her phone] “What am I listening to nowadays?? Let’s see… The 1975, The Dangerous Summer, Against the Current (the lead singer is such a babe!). I like alternative and rock, pop, hip hop music too! Anything within those genres. And EDM too!”
