Week five’s chapter in The Naked Roommate: and 107 Other Issues You Might Run Into in College, by Harlan Cohen is Getting Involved on Campus. The start of the second semester is a good time to get more involved and to meet new people. The top two tips are:
Clubs and organizations: A Smorgasbord of opportunity: visit your college’s website and Facebook groups to investigate clubs and activities and visit other colleges’ websites to see new clubs and activities for you to start. For instance I’m thinking about starting a tap team because my friend has one at her school!
Sports and athletics: Buckets of college sweat: Stay in shape, meet people, play games, hang out later with the team-and then get so amazing that you go pro. (Staying in shape doesn’t apply to the World Series of Poker players and professional bowlers.) Even if you are on a team with all your friends you will play against people that you haven’t met and will able to meet new people that way!
Getting involved can mean as little as joining one new club a semester and seeing which ones fit to you. It’s a fun and easy way to try new things and get to know others. So get up and go join something – maybe some of you girls will even join HerCampus!!
