Last week, Punxsutawney Phil made the bold move to declare six more weeks of winter!  While things are heating up for some people with Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, the rest of us without a boyfriend, girlfriend or partner are left in the cold.  With all of this snow building up, here are a few ways to make the most of the cold days as well as keep warm!

1. Go skiing or ice skating.

While embracing the whipping wind and freezing temperatures may seem a bit counterintuitive when trying to stay warm, outdoor sports are a great way to warm up while still being able to enjoy the winter scenery.  Grab a group of friends to ski, snowboard, or even just sit in the lodge for the day.  Look out for the Bristol Ski Trip that HWS is sponsoring on February 28!

2. Go shopping.

While shopping may not be reserved for cold weather only, malls are especially enticing in the winter as they allow you to spend a few hours indoors. Some key pieces to look for this winter are fur trimmed hats and gloves, and fur vests and scarves. Also wool and cashmere ponchos and blanket scarves create a comfortable, easy and put together look.  You can easily spend the entire day with your friends at the Waterloo Outlet Mall, only a short drive away!

3. Relax.

Accept that the winter is miserable and stay in your bed as long as you can! Make some food, grab a drink, and have your computer and phone within arms reach. Maybe even pick up a new book or the newspaper if you’re feeling ambitious.

4. Have a fun night in with your friends.

If you like cooking, make dinner together. Pizzas usually please everyone and can get creative, or make something you’ve been craving from home. If you don’t like to cook, that’s what delivery is for! But maybe use real glasses or have a bottle of wine to get some semblance of class. With everyone having their individually specific schedules keeping them busy, sometimes it’s nice to have a slow night and just catch up with your friends.

5. Take advantage of the campus shuttle.

Have no shame in taking the campus shuttle to get from one house or dorm to another, it’s there for a reason. The drivers are usually very nice and with good behavior will allow loud music too.  Why walk when you can more than less likely have your own campus party bus?!

Remember to stay warm and have fun this wintery season!
