5 Films to Watch This Valentines Day

Valentines day is a great excuse to cuddle up, eat candy, and watch some shameless rom-coms! Thanks to the UBC Film Society we can help you avoid  Hugh Grant some train wreck movies. Stick to the list and you will be well entertained.

1) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind | 93% Rotten Tomatoes  

Starring Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey this movie follows the story of a broken up couple. Each decide to undergo the surgical procedure to have their minds erased, making them forget any memory they shared. The movie received an amazing 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and makes it to the top of our list.

2) The Philadelphia Story | 100% Rotten Tomatoes

This 1950s romantic comedy stares the wonderful Katherine Hepburn as Tracy, a Philadelphia socialite. Tracey’s life starts to get complicated when her ex-husband and a gossip reporter start to meddle with her wedding plans. The movie is one of the few on Rotten Tomatoes that has received 100%

3) Bridges of Madison County | 89% Rotten Tomatoes.Based on the book by Robert James Waller, this movie can be a little heartbreaking at times. It stars Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep, who both give amazing performances. Spoiler alert Clint Eastwood Smiles…It is weird. 

 

4) Amélie | 89% Rotten Tomatoes

This rom-com is one of the most successful foreign films in the USA and is currently being turned into a Broadway show! This film is a Valentines Day classic and earned a 89% from Rotten Tomatoes. 

 5) Weekend | 95% Rotten Tomatoes

Following the story of story of Russell and Glen, the film shows the next 48 hours they spend together. This movie demonstrates how large of an impact someone can have in another’s life in such a short amount of time. Weekend earned a 95% from Rotten Tomatoes and is a much watch for any couple this Valentines.
