What You Need to Know If You Want to Date a UConn Husky

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Conn chapter.

1.     We put Husky basketball over everything else

Don’t even bother trying to schedule a date on game day (unless it involves going to the game), because we would much rather be in Gampel screaming our faces off. If we absolutely must go out, well…make sure we have a view of the TV.  We are not trying to miss any of those sweet Boatright 3-pointers.

P.S.  We know that we have good games and bad games, but we’ll stick by our Huskies forever, so keep the trash talking to a minimum.

2.     Speaking of basketball, you’ll never be as great of a man to us as Kemba (Or Shabazz, Ray Allen, Emeka Okafor, *insert any UConn great here*)

“I loved those flowers you got me for my birthday, but when was the last time you hit a buzzer beater against Syracuse?”

3.     Don’t expect to see much of us in the winter- we know how to deal with the cold…

If living in freezing cold Storrs has taught us one thing, it’s how to prepare for the cold.  We know how cute you think we look in sundresses, but expect nothing less than a parka from January to the end of March.

4.     ….except when we’re going out

We know how to dress warm to go to class, sure.  But if there’s one thing a UConn girl will sacrifice for, it’s a good outfit.  And if that means wearing a skirt and heels to Nickel in -2 degree weather, well…don’t judge us.

5.     We know how to late night snack

Wings Over, DP Dough, Husky Pizza…the possibilities are endless.  With so many options, you’ll never be in need of a partner to stuff your face with.

6.     But we love to stay active

UConn is one of the fittest campuses around.  It has to be, considering how big it is!  We wouldn’t be able to walk around all day without being in shape.  And with beautiful areas like Horsebarn Hill, who could resist a run out in the sun?  We’ll make it to dinner eventually, but we might be late because we’re waiting in line for the treadmill.

7.     We may be a little bit “basic” at times…

We Huskies are always sporting the latest trend, whether it’s Bean Boots, North Faces, or Vera Bradley wallets.  You’ll see these things EVERYWHERE in New England so it’s worth getting used to…they don’t call it “Connecticut Casual” for nothing!  Plus if you are also from up here, we can make a pretty safe bet that your daily attire consists of Timbs (or Sperry’s) and red pants.

8.     You must pay respect to our many prized UConn establishments

We don’t care if you think Gampel looks like a golf ball, or Huskies is grimey, or that beavers taste disgusting.  So keep your opinions to yourself.

9.     We all have our one on-campus food we can’t resist. It’s your job to find out what it is and surprise us with it all the time

Hints for possible answers: Union Mac & Cheese, Faddy’s donuts,  Southwest chicken wraps, Dairy Bar ice cream.

10. Don’t be jealous if we spend a lot of time with our main man Homer Babbidge

We UConn ladies know how to play hard, but also how to work hard.  And sometimes that includes late nights at the library.  We promise to hang out with you after midterms.

11. WE LOVE OUR SCHOOL

Yes, we may complain about the freezing temperatures, crappy gym and basically living in the middle of no where, but when it comes down to it we know we could never go to school anywhere else.  Our lives would be so different if we weren’t Huskies and we wouldn’t change it for the world!
