Mikie Jae, a first-year Creative Industries student, is one of many Ryerson YouTubers that is hoping to use YouTube as an outlet to discover herself.
HC: When did you decide that making videos and broadcasting them on YouTube was what you wanted to do?
MJ: I got my first point and shoot camera in grade 6. Ever since, I remember I’d always document my days and edit them into videos. It was just something I did for fun without even knowing about YouTube. When I found out about Youtube, I uploaded my videos and showed them to my relatives. My videos started to evolve when I got a proper DSLR camera, and I started to teach myself how to properly edit videos. When I think back to it, making videos is something that just happened very naturally and instinctively
HC: What is your YouTube dedicated to?
MJ: As of now, my YouTube channel is purely an outlet for my creativity and is not dedicated to anything otherwise. I want to be as unrestricted as possible so that I can explore my own style. I’m still experimenting with everything.
HC: Who is your main inspiration on YouTube?
One of my greatest YouTube inspirations would have to be Shameless Maya. She hustled hard to get where she is right now, yet she still remains so humble. Her story and attitude inspires me to work hard in every aspect of life

What do you aspire to do in the future?
To be quite frank, I’m still trying to figure that out.
HC: How would you describe your channel in a sentence?
My channel is in constant flux.. nobody can really know what to expect, including myself.

HC: What are your plans for your channel?
In the summer I plan on uploading more regularly and frequently. Until now, I’ve been very casual about it but I think it’s something I really want to develop.
HC: Are you planning on doing any collaboration with other YouTube stars from Ryerson or elsewhere?
Yes! You’ll have to subscribe to see ! ;)
HC: What is one piece of advice you would give to aspiring YouTubers?
If it’s something you really want to do, just do it. For yourself and your own fulfillment. Don’t think too much about it… and don’t just talk about doing it. Don’t worry about sucking, because everybody has to start somewhere. Above all, always stay humble.
