The Results Are In! Here are the Hottest Trends for Spring 2015

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WPUNJ chapter.

With awards season over and New York Fashion Week all wrapped up, we now have a pretty good idea of what the hot trends are going to be this spring. So forget about the freezing weather, take out your fashion journal, and take note!

1. Tea-Length Skirts

The skater skirts had their moment last spring but this time around, it’s all about the tea-length! Jennifer Lopez is a particularly big fan of this look, showing up to multiple red carpets and talk shows wearing the trend. One of my favorite fashion looks of all time is actually this ensemble worn by Jessica Alba. It just screams Audrey Hepburn, right?!

Tea-length skirts are very feminine and sophisticated. Although they are usually high-waisted, don’t pull out your crop tops, ladies. This trend is meant to accentuate your womanly figure without baring that famous sliver of torso we so often see.

2. Men’s Wear

If you’re tired of wearing skirts and dresses to formal events, fret no more! This season’s red carpet turned out some really amazing looks featuring men’s wear worn by women. Emma Stone was at the top of many people’s best-dressed list when she wore these black trousers paired with a sparkly top at this year’s Golden Globes. Her top shakes up the masculinity by adding a feminine element to the look. Also, Anna Kendrick joined in on the fun at the Grammys when she showed up in this eye-catching suit.

3. Canary Yellow

Substituting a pair of yellow pumps for your usual nude ones is a perfect way to bring your ensemble into spring. Taylor Swift effortlessly paired her heels with a black and white jumper (black and white matches everything so remember that if you’re overwhelmed by the idea of incorporating such a bright color). And if you’re feeling daring, try out this hue with more than just your shoes and accessories. Naomi Watts did this perfectly on the Golden Globes red carpet. She paired her yellow gown with a bold red lip and a stunning diamond statement necklace.

4. 70s Inspired Fashion

This past winter was all about bringing back the 90s. Now, the 70s are making a groovy comeback! Say hello to the vibrant hues, wide leg pants, and platform heels. Solange is known for her 70s style and here, she is displaying it well along with her simple makeup and statement lip. Can you say “hello summer”?!

5. Bold Colors

Last spring was all about the pastels but now it’s time for the bolds to make a break into our closets! One of the newsletters I received from designer Henri Bendel said “spicy orange” is “having a moment” and with what we’ve already seen from Naomi Watts and Solange, I would say all these vibrant colors are having their moment this spring! Tracee Ellis Ross rocked this lime green jumpsuit and Emmy Rossum infused all kinds of fun colors into her look by wearing this floral print dress paired with burgundy heels and a hot pink lip.

6. Chain-link Jewelry

Is it a coincidence that chains are on trend around the same time 50 Shades of Grey is the movie on the tip of everyone’s tongue? Who knows. But incorporating chain-link jewelry into your ensemble will bring a statement to your look as well as an edge. Here we see Iggy Azalea showing us two ways to wear the trend. You can really channel your inner Anastasia like the first look or go with something more delicate like the second.

7. LDD (Little Denim Dress)

This was hot on the runways during New York Fashion Week. It’s a casual and flirty alternative to the usual LBD (Little Black Dress). Here is a Chloé model strutting her stuff while wearing knee-high gladiator sandals, another trend this spring.

8. Gingham

This pattern is a great alternative to stripes or plaid. It can go in a few directions though. Here we see Kirsten Dunst wearing it in a more fun and youthful way, channeling her inner Dorothy, and Taylor taking it in a more old-fashioned and sophisticated direction.

There you have it! Keep these notes handy for when the weather decides to warm up, and remember: always have fun with your fashion!
