HC: What made you want to major in interior design?
SS: When I was 12 years old, my family decided to move and parents had no desire to decorate. Instead, I got the lucky task. They let me do everything; the colors schemes, furniture, pretty much everything you can think of. That’s what started the idea of being an interior designer but it wasn’t till I took a summer program in 2010 that strictly focused on Inter Design that finalized my interest.
HC: What are your plans after graduation?
SS: Defiantly want to make my way to south Florida, but I want to work for many different designers to learn different aspects of the industry.
HC: When did you start having a major interest in drawing?
SS: In middle school and some of high school, I couldn’t take any art classes but in 11th grade I was finally able to take an art course. I loved it from the beginning and since I loved riding too, it was nice to mix the two.
HC: You also have your own business; can you tell us more about that?
SS: My major interests of my business are photography and charcoal drawings focusing on animals and portraits. I also do events, holiday photos, and shows as well as commission work.
HC: How do you manage this successful business?
SS: I love my business but it can be incredibly stressful. Updating my website, making sure payments go through, always having the right supplies/equipment, it can all be very difficult. But through all that you have to be smart with your clients and stay positive. Word of mouth can either make or break you, so always be kind to your customer.
HC: Who or what is your biggest inspiration?
SS: Ansel Adams. I love how he plays with lighting and his use of black and white photography.
HC: To bring this to an end, what is one interesting fact about you?
SS: I don’t eat, drink, or wear anything orange.
