The Ultimate St. Patrick’s Day Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Davidson chapter.

Wearing green is fun (as is pinching the unlucky lads who forgot to) but are you craving something to add a little extra Irish spirit to your St. Patrick’s day? Luckily, you’ve reached the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Complete with fiddlers, penny whistles, bagpipes, and dubstep, Her Campus Davidson presents to you the Ultimate St. Patrick’s Day playlist!

(All song titles are hyperlinked to a YouTube video of the song. Just click to give them a listen! Or, if you don’t feel like reading a whole article and you just want to get down and jam, check out The Ultimate St. Patrick’s Day Playlist on Spotify!)

1. Mountain Dew — The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem

This jig has a classic relaxing Irish feel to it, perfect for getting your day started the Celtic way. Also, if you read no further, check out the video attatched to this song– you’ll be glad you did.

2. Rainbow Connection — Weezer and Hayley Williams

A St. Patrick’s day playlist simply isn’t complete without a reference to rainbows. Check out this cool cover of the classic Muppets jam!

3. Drunken Lullabies — Flogging Molly

Put some pep in your step with this punk-rock-meets-traditional irish tune.

4. Dreams — The Cranberries

Change your pace with a little pop, directly imported from The Cranberries’ native Ireland!

5. Seven Drunken Nights — The Dubliners

It may be a school night, but that doesn’t mean you can’t experience a week of drunkedness vicariously with this comical song!

6. Beautiful Day — U2

Another pop import. U2 was probably thinking of March 17th when they wrote this song anyway.

7. Leprechauns & Unicorns — Dryo

This dubstep mix is the first song that pops up when you look up “Leprechauns” in Spotify, and I thought the world should know.

8. Forty Shades of Green — Johnny Cash

Calm down after the wild ride that “Leprechauns & Unicorns” took you on with this Cash cover remnicient of the green homeland.

9. Lucky — Jason Mraz and Colbie Calliat

Jason and Colbie’s narrative love song probably has a lot to do with the Luck of the Irish.

10. We Will Rock You, Eye of the Tiger — The Red Hot Chilli Pipers

Introducing the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, a Scottish bagpipe cover band. Though technically not from Ireland, who doesn’t need this in their life?

11. I’m Shipping Up To Boston — Dropkick Murphys

Yet another stunning example of the flawless combination that is hardcore punk and Celtic folk.

12. Foggy Dew — Young Dubliners

The buildup in this song is not something to miss. It’s sure to put you in touch with the spirit of St. Patrick.

13. The Kesh Jig — The Bothy Band

A classic Celtic jig to lighten your hearts, lift your spirits, and remind you what the day is all about.

14. Lots of Drops of Brandy — The Chieftains

Another song referencing alcohol from what’s been designated as the original traditional Irish Folk band. Grab a pint and get to dancing!

15. Cotton-Eyed Joe — The Chieftains and Ricky Skaggs

What better way to end your St. Patrick’s Day celebration with this tune that everyone knows and is irresistable to hop around to?

So there you have it, a playlist sure to make your day a success! With that, so long, farewell, and…
