What Is Going On With One Direction?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Point Park chapter.
Things have gotten a little crazy with our favorite boyband lately. The boys are currently on their fourth headlining concert tour, entitled “On The Road Again,” which is slated to come to Pittsburgh later this year.

While in Thailand, rumors of member Zayn Malik cheating on his fiancé Perrie Edwards surfaced causing mass chaos among the fan base. He was seen at a party holding hands with a young blonde named Lauren Richardson, a student from the UK who was in Thailand with friends.

The next day One Direction’s publicist released a statement saying Zayn would be leaving the tour for the rest of the dates in Asia for ‘stress.’ He flew back to the UK immediately and was seen meeting with Perrie at their London home. It remains unclear on what really happened that night in Thailand, but it seems Zayn has left to do damage control.

Soon after Zayn left the tour, it was reported by People magazine that fellow band member Louis Tomlinson and long-time girlfriend Eleanor Calder had split. It supposedly occurred two weeks ago, with the two holding off announcing it, as they
“wanted some privacy during this time.”  Is this just bad timing, or did this announcement purposely come after Zayn Malik’s drama in order to defer the attention?

Either way, things aren’t going well for the British pop group. Many fans are concerned they are witnessing the beginning of the downfall of One Direction, and I myself am wondering the same.  Hopefully that isn’t the case, and we’ll see all five of them at Heinz Field on August 2nd!
