Last week the Windsor Lancers Women`s basketball team scored big. On March 15, they defeated McGill University 60-47 in order to achieve the national championship title five years in a row.
Their victory at PEPS Gymnasium in Quebec City, Quebec led the women to tie the record for greatest number of consecutive national championship titles. The record was last held by the Laurentian Voyageurs who won the national championship title from 1975-1979. No team has tied the record until now. It is quite possible that the University of Windsor`s Women`s basketball team could win the championships next year and hold the record.
The Windsor Lancers had a great game. For two women on the team, Korissa Williams and Jocelyn LaRocque, it is their fifth time winning championships. This is a record as well. Before now, no player has won five championship titles. Korissa Williams was also named MVP of the tournament. The girls played really well; they had a great defense and scored some very important baskets. The Lancers kept it a close game throughout then pushed their lead even higher towards the end of the fourth quarter to secure their win.
Congratulations to the whole team! Keep working hard and let’s go for six in a row next year!
