I’ve never enjoyed shopping with guys. They get bored easily, have the attention span of a puppy, and are ridiculously impatient. However, there are some benefits to picking out new clothes with your closest guy friend- for one, guys are completely objective. They don’t follow female trends, so you will get an honest opinion on whether or not that ruffled dress looks great on you or if it makes you look like a three-year-old in a tutu. Guys are also hard-wired to prefer clothes that flatter your body, so they have an innate ability to identify clothing that makes you look awesome.

Don’t have a close male friend? No problem! In the confusing world of fashion, it can get a bit difficult deciding which trends to try and which only look good on size-0 models. Although girls shouldn’t dress for anyone but themselves, it can be interesting and helpful to hear a male perspective on female trends.

High-waisted jeans and shorts

According to our panel of men, this was the trend they felt the strongest about. “They don’t do anything to flatter your body,” says Wilson, a 20-year old male. “It looks like you’re wearing a diaper.”

Crop tops

What are we supposed to wear with our high-waisted bottoms? Crop tops! According to the panel, crop tops belong in the 80s. “It doesn’t look classy,” says Martin, a 20-year old male. Instead, stick to your favorite skinny, low rise jeans and a fitted top to show off your figure.

Dark lipstick

A favorite amongst many girls to amp up their nighttime look, dark lipstick is mysterious, sexy, and classy. Or so I thought. The panel believed dark lipstick was too harsh and didn’t flatter the natural shape of a woman’s lips. Instead, stick to red, coral, or nude to enhance that pretty pout for your dinner date.

Chunky wedges

“They just make your feet look like blocks,” says Martin. Instead, stick to pumps for an easy everyday alternative, and sexy, sky-high stilettos at night.

Uggs

A favorite of hungover girls everywhere, Uggs received a big thumbs-down on our panel. Similar to chunky wedges, Uggs make your feet look far larger than they are. And that is never attractive. Alternatively, slip on a pair of flats with cushioned insoles for a cute, comfy look.

Yoga pants

I wasn’t too surprised when I heard this one; yoga pants are basically universally flattering. To quote a dear friend, “my butt was reborn.” Not only are they ridiculously comfortable, they are also incredibly versatile!

Beanies

The ultimate accessory for the casual-chic female, beanies were a favorite on our panel. “I’ve never seen a girl in a beanie I didn’t find attractive,” says Adam, a 19-year old male. Rock a beanie with sweaters, dresses, blazers… the possibilities are endless.

Perfume

Instead of purchasing that expensive new purse (do you really need another one?), consider investing in a new perfume that really represents you. According to our panel, a subtle scent is one of the most attractive accessories a girl can have.

Confidence

Our panel agreed- more flattering than anything money can buy is confidence! Wear anything you want with confidence, and you will still look awesome. So rock that crop top with your favorite high-waisted jeans. As long as you wear them with confidence, you’ll look smokin’!
