Monster-Tall Trees
It was frontman Jad Hammond’s birthday yesterday, so I would be the worst of the worst if I didn’t kick off this playlist with some Tall Trees magic, straight from our nation’s capital city! Taken from their debut album How To Take a Fall, this one’s a personal favorite-give it a whirl if you’re looking for something authentically indie!
Mobile-Avril Lavigne In slightly less authentic tunes we have Canada’s former pride and joy Avril Sk8r Boi Lavigne and her oh-so-melodramatic debut album Let Go, featuring this essentially flawless track.
Everybody’s Talkin’ My Baby Down-Celine Dion
THE voice (and style icon, as evidenced above) of Canada, Celine keeps it real on this stellar track about loving a man nobody else can appreciate. Perfect for those of you who have people in your lives who like to run their mouths. Let Celine commiserate with you. P.S this may be the sole song Celine doesn’t over sing on, so you’re safe listening to this one on the subway!
You Oughta Know-Alanis MorissetteDoes the angst of Avril Lavigne seem too…high school for you? Alines is your natural progression, and she’s got your call-out track covered with this one. With a more jagged (pun intended), edgier sound, Morissette howls across this song about a partner who just doesn’t have any sense.
I Believe In Us-Amy Sky
In an effort to end this playlist on less of “relationships and people suck” note, I humbly present to you a love song that has (admittedly) been a staple in my life since I was about seven years old and took this album out of the library on a semi-weekly basis to replay this one song over and over again. Long distance? Listen to this and let your fears melt away. Amy Sky believes in her relationship. You, too, believe in your relationship. Let it be so.
