15 TV Shows That Remind Us of Our Childhood

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at STU (CA) chapter.

The TV shows we see kids watching nowadays just doesn’t seem as good as the shows we used to watch as kids. Heck, if those shows were brought back, we’d be the first ones in front of the TV like when we were five again!

From YTV to Treehouse, and The Family Channel to TeleToon, here’s a list to help us reminisce about the good ol’ TV shows that we watched when we were younger! However, there are dozens of other shows that we have all enjoyed during our childhood, so these are just a few of our precious memories!

1. Monster by Mistake (1996-2000)

Pixar’s got nothing on this computer animation! This show was on YTV. For those who don’t remember, or never watched it, it was about a brother and sister and their best friend, who just happens to be a ghost. The sister accidentally turned her brother into a big blue monster, so whenever he sneezed, he would transform!

2. That’s So Raven (2003-2007)

Raven taught us many things. For example, how to embrace being different from others, even if you can tell the future! She also followed her own dreams of becoming a fashion designer, while teaching people how to love yourself no matter how you look! With her many catchphrases like “Ya nas-ty!” and “My bad,” she was always making us laugh!

3. The Wild Thornberrys (1998-2004)

This is where those famous Nigel Thornberry memes came from! Along with her nature-doc dad, Eliza explores the wild in an RV with her mom Marianne, her older sister Debbie, her wild-boy brother Donnie, and her trusted pet monkey Darwin. On top of that, who wouldn’t want to have the ability to talk to animals?

4. Martin Mystery (2003-2006)

This Canadian TV show was also on YTV. Before Ben-10, we had Martin Mystery! Martin, along with his step-sister, Diana and their 200,000 year-old caveman friend, Java all work as agents for The Center, a paranormal investigation unit. Full of laughs, some action, and a lot of slime, this show was one of my personal favourites!

5. All That (1994-2005)

Before SNL, we had All That! Almost everyone remembers the comedic sketch show starring some future stars like Amanda Bynes, Kenan Thompson, and Nick Cannon! With comedic sketches like when Jack Desena as Randy Quench: Volunteer Fireman, and the Harry Potter parody, Harry Bladder who didn’t love the show? Fun fact: comedian Gabriel Iglesias was part of the cast in 2000!

6. Big Wolf on Campus (1999-2002)

Before Jacob Black and Teen Wolf, there was Tommy Dawkins! Ok, some people (myself included) had a huge crush on Brandon Quinn as the main big wolf Tommy Dawkins, as well as Danny Smith, who played Merton Dingle, the lovable geeky best friend of Tommy. Fighting crime wolf-style, this show was addicting and gave you a lot of laughs!

7. Kim Possible (2002-2007)

Everyone has had Kim Possible’s ringtone stuck in their head at least 10 times, right? Maybe some of us even have it as our own ringtone! This show kicked a lot of butt, and showed us how hard girls can kick butt! With a naked mole rat and her best friend Ron helping her, Kim was unstoppable! Later seasons also had Kim and Ron becoming more than just friends – super sweet!

8. Recess (1997-2001)

I’m pretty sure everyone saw themselves in one of the characters in this show, whether it was the leader T.J., the super smart Gretchen, or the tough-as-nails Spinelli! But when Miss Finster came out, it was definitely time to go!

9. Uh Oh! (1997-2003)

This show was the epitome of slime! When you saw this show, you wanted to be on the show! Not only did they get to have fun competitions in teams, but you also won awesome prizes! Just make sure you don’t get slimed by The Punisher!

10. Boy Meets World (1993-2000)

This was our childhood version of Dawson’s Creek! We had heartthrobs, break-ups, and tough times in school. But through everything, there was Cory and Topanga (and of course, Mr. Feeney)! You can bet we’re catching up on the new episodes of Girl Meets World – how do you think Cory’s daughter Riley stacks up to the original?

11. Rugrats (1990-2006)

Who doesn’t remember the cute theme song that we listened to when the show started? With Reptar by their side, Tommy, along with Chuckie, Phil and Lil could take on anything – even Angelica! Later on, Tommy’s brother Dil and Chuckie’s new sister Kimi join the gang! Years later, a new show was created called All Grown Up, where it featured the same gang, but struggling through their preteen years in school!

12. Goosebumps (1995-1998)

It’s unbelievable how this show only lasted three years! This was my all-time favourite show when I was a kid! Even the intro music gave you a chill! From The Haunted Mask to Night of the Living Dummy, this show kept us on our feet – and under our covers!

13. The Amanda Show (1999-2002)

This spin-off from All That definitely made its own name for us! It’s where Drake Bell and Josh Peck first came into our hearts! It had everything from popcorn pants to broccoli that tasted like sugar! And of course, Amanda Bynes kept us laughing with sketches like Judge Trudy and the gangster Tony Pajamas (pronounced pa-JAH-mahs)!

14. The Magic School Bus (1994-1997)

Learning… fun? It was with this show! We all wanted to be part of Ms. Frizzle’s class! I’m pretty sure if this was real, kids would never want to leave school! *Sigh* We can only dream… or take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!

15. Lizzie McGuire (2001-2004)

From buying our first bra, to crushing on the hunk in school, Lizzie shared all of her experiences with us, and we shared some of ours through her! This show taught us life lessons about friendship, crushes, annoying siblings and family. Lizzie even got a big send-off in Italy in The Lizzie McGuire Movie!
