Top Five (Affordable) Food Spots on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Harvard chapter.

If you’re anything like me, during exam period I avoid the dining hall like the plague. Not sure if it’s the stress, the food, or just Winthrop dining hall itself (that underground dhall though…), but during exams, 100% of my bank account is dedicated to eating out. Here are my top five, college-priced food spots around Harvard Square

1. Russell House Tavern

With its cozy atmosphere and laid-back dual bar and restaurant vibe, the Russell House Tavern is versatile: go here on a date, with your gal pals, or with your visiting family. While the dinner menu is quite impressive, the real steal is its brunch menu. Its Stuffed Brioche French Toast with Nutella and banana (and did I mention Nutella?) is every breakfast-lovers’ dream, while its Slow Roasted “Char Siu” Pork Loin Sandwich with beansprouts, peanuts, and mint (and side of fries) provides an interesting combination of flavors in a savory dish. Best part? Brunch entrees are served in ginormous portions in an affordable range of prices from $7-$14. True to Massachusetts fashion, RHT also has a raw bar during brunch hours with oysters, tuna, clams, and lobster tail.

2. Mr. Bartley’s Burgers

Perhaps the only thing more cluttered than the walls of Mr. Bartley’s is the restaurant itself. Super crowded, and full of Boston pride, Mr. Bartley’s is a can’t-miss when you’re on campus, especially if you’re a burger fanatic like I am. With unique, often Boston-centric burger titles such as “The Tom Brady”, Mr. Bartley’s provides a wide range of out-of-the-box burgers. My personal favorite? The Beyoncé (clearly the best, duh). In combination with the Elvis Frappe, the food baby is so worth it.

3. BerryLine

Hidden in a tiny yellow shack, Berryline frozen yogurt is so good – I’m not ashamed to admit I am an obsessive active stamp card user, even during the winter season. With only a select few flavors (vanilla and miscellaneous), it’s underwhelming in appearance. BUT the toppings (cheesecake, brownies, mochi…) make it the best frozen yogurt on campus, hands down.

4. Le’s

Pho. Enough said.

5. Clover Food Lab

So good, I once considered becoming a vegeterian. Quick, easy, and super affordable, Clover Food Labs is conveniently located in the square with a food truck for even more delicious access. They’re constantly changing up their menu (however, their fries seem to be a staple – no worries) and with their promise to use healthy ingredients, this is one nom nom you don’t have to consider a “guilty” pleasure.

Honorable Mentions: Midnight Munchies Edition

The Hong Kong, Tasty Burger, Felipes (just kidding, Felipes is 24/7 worthy)
