How to Make the Best Out of Marathon Monday

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

It’s no secret that the most anticipated day of the year at BU is Marathon Monday. As a freshman, you constantly hear stories involving this special April day. Although it’s always being talked about, it’s hard to know exactly what to expect for your first one. So, if you want to make the most out of your first Marathon Monday, here are five tips from upperclassmen to ensure that you cover all the bases.

1. Have a plan with your friends already set up. The day is extremely hectic, and you want to have at least a vague idea of where you’re going and what you’re doing. Some friends even wear matching shirts in order to keep track of each other!

2. The race may not officially start until 9, but make sure to get up early -around 7- and eat a good breakfast. If you want to get a good spot to watch the race, you’ll have to get there pretty early!

3. Speaking of good spots to watch the runners, many BU students will go to Brookline and watch the festivities on Beacon Street near Whole Foods. Others congregate at Kenmore Square near Fenway. Both places are sure to be crawling with other students!

4. Bring along a bag or fun fanny pack to make sure all your stuff stays in one place. The last thing you want is to be worrying about the whereabouts of your phone, sunglasses, or BU ID, so keeping all your stuff in place is key.

5. Pace yourself and have fun! It’s a long day, but it’s going to be one of the best days of your college career, so try to soak it in as best as possible.
