What comes to mind when someone says elementary school? You may think of crayons, learning to spell, writing in cursive and practicing multiplication tables over and over again. But, who was responsible for caring for us when we walked into school crying, fell on the playground, or rewarded us when we got our first A on a spelling test? Often times going unnoticed are the hardworking elementary school teachers that taught us to excel both in and outside of the classroom.
1. Thank you for your patience.
Even when your ‘favorite student’ threw this crumpled up spelling test on the floor and cried.
2. Thank you for teaching us the skills we need to succeed in life.
3. Thank you for teaching us to share properly.
Without this skill I don’t think any of us would know how to interact with others.
4. Thank you for encouraging us to find our inner creative side.
Even if we were terrible at the flute, you were there to support us.
5. Thank you for teaching us to use our voices.
And I’m sorry for all the times you heard the same story about my trip to the aquarium over and over again.
6. Thank you for comforting us all the days that we showed up to school crying.
7. Thank you for teaching us to work as a team.
And I’m sorry for the fights you had to break up over which book our group would read to the class.
8. Thank you for letting us interrupt your class to celebrate our birthdays.
Those were the days we looked forward to the most.
9. Thank you for encouraging us when we failed on spelling tests.
Bribing us with candy was always a good idea.
10. Thank you for teaching us that reading is not a chore but an enjoyable activity.
11. Thank you for letting us have 5 second dance parties in class.
12. Thank you for teaching us cursive.
You didn’t lie! I still write in cursive.
13. Thank you for connecting with us on another level.
I will never forget the times you asked me about soccer practice and what I did over the weekend.
14. Thank you for dressing up with us in pajamas, costumes, or crazy hats.
15. Thank you for understanding that we make mistakes
16. Thank you for making school be as enjoyable as you could possibly make it
I wish I could go back and spend my days coloring and learning the alphabet.
17. Thank you for letting us be the line leader
It was one of the best feelings in the world.
18. Thank you for teaching us to respect others opinions
