Recent Outburst in Book Inspired Movies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

Maybe it’s me but there seems to be a recent huge influx of book to movie adaptations among the entertainment industry. From Gone Girl, to 50 Shades of Grey and more I’m starting to wonder if Hollywood is running out of ideas for movies or if these books are simply too good to restrict to just pages. In any case here are some of the major upcoming book to movie adaptations for 2015-2016.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD, YE BE WARNED WARY TRAVELERS!!!

Paper Towns by John Green

Out July 24 and starring Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff this story follows a scavenger-type road trip to find a missing girl. From acclaimed author John Green you can expect a The Fault In Our Stars vibe to get excited about!

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner

Sequel to The Maze Runner series this film adaptation will follow the boys in their second trial for a vaccine to the Flare virus and stars Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster which is enough reason to hit the theaters when it’s released Sept. 18.

The Mockingjay Part 2 by Suzanne Collins

A bit bittersweet for many fans will be the final installment of The Hunger Games series out this Nov. 20. Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and dreamboat Liam Hemsworth, Katniss Everdeen is near the end of her journey, and the civil war waging in Panem.

Peregrine’s Home for Peculiars by Ransom Riggs

Although this book came out a bit after our young adult years it has become a widely renowned thriller involving children with “special abilities” and the adventures they encounter on their island. Starring Eva Green, Samuel L. Jackson, Asa Butterfield, and Kim Dickens and set to release March 4 of next year it is a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seats!

Allegiant Part 1 by Veronica Roth

If you’re part of the Divergent fandom and have already seen the first two movies this March 18 release date probably seems way too far away. But hang in there! This installment follows Beatrice Prior and Tobias Eaton as they travel beyond the fence. Starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Miles Teller this movie is sure to deliver.

As a Disney, dog, and superhero enthusiast I live for the outdoors (particularly my homeland foothills) and the unreal where adventures and the ridiculous are quite obtainable and/or practical.
