Name: Keegan Tasker

Year: Class of 2017

Major: Marketing and International Business

Hometown: Port Orchard, WA

Birthday/Zodiac Sign: July 16, Cancer

Campus Involvement: This year I got involved as an RA, as a Morale Captain for Dance Marathon (which is one of my favorite things ever), on the Albers Placement Center Student Advisory Council, as a Leadership Coordinator in the Leadership Development Office, and co-leading the spring break service trip to New Orleans with Kelsey McGarry and an incredible group of humans.

What do you think your parents are most proud of you for? Wow that’s a toughie… I think my parents are really proud of the relationship that my brother and I have. My brother, Logan, and I are two years apart and he’s been my built-in-best-friend since forever. I don’t know, I just feel like there’s nobody else on the planet who gets me like he does, and it’s really nice to feel unconditionally loved and supported even when you do something that you’re not super proud of. We definitely have really different interests and personalities, but I think that my parents are proud of the fact that we’re unique and successful in our own ways, and are mutually proud of each other. I don’t know how we’ve managed to stay this close for our whole lives, but I honestly don’t know what I’d do without him.

What would the title of your autobiography be? “Ugh, My Moms Posted Something Inappropriate On My Facebook Wall Again” … I feel like it’s pretty self-explanatory.

What movie/book/TV show character do you most strongly identify with and why? I think ‘Paper Towns’ by John Green is one of my absolute favorite books because I identify so strongly with Quentin Jacobsen. I definitely connect with the feeling of chasing something that you might have completely made up in your own head, but going for it anyways. I love his sarcasm, his wit, his sense of adventure, and his willingness to take the important risks. Even though he doesn’t get everything that he hoped for in the end, the journey that he goes on to find Margo brings him so much more than that. I feel like every time I want to accomplish something that’s important to me, there’s just so much more satisfaction and anticipation in the journey to get there than the reality (and sometimes disappointment) of the end goal.

If you were forced to get a full back tattoo, what would it be? Wow that’s a big commitment. Hmmm… I really love skeleton keys because they have this strange ability to unlock any door. Back in November, I got a tattoo of a skeleton key on my ribs because I was at a place where I felt like it was important to remind myself that when one door closes (whether it’s a relationship, a friendship, you didn’t get a job you really wanted, etc.), there are a million other doors out there in front of you waiting to be opened. With a skeleton key, as long as you want to, you have the ability to take that step, unlock the next door, and see where it leads you. Someone also described privilege to me as “the number of keys you have on a key ring”. Since a skeleton key has the power to unlock every door, it’s also my reminder to myself to always check my privilege and be intentional about the doors that I am privileged to be able to unlock. So, if I could get a full back tattoo… it would probably of a dolphin riding off into the sunset!
