Summer in Berkeley 101

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Berkeley chapter.

After my freshmen year at Berkeley, I decided to take summer school classes. The choice was a hard one, because I didn’t want to give my whole summer for school. I’m also from the city of Los Angeles so I would be trading sunny skies for the unexpected Berkeley weather. When it was all said in done, I decided to stay for the summer….it turned out to be better than expected. Although, you’ll busy with school work there are plenty of great summer festivals! One of my favorites was the Gay Pride Festival in San Francisco which was full of colorful personalities and outfits. The parade is amazing and so is the food! The Kite Festival in the Berkeley Marina was equally as amazing and had many great booths and activities. One of the most beautiful was the Lantern Festival in Berkeley Marina which was spectacular! There’s also amazing food festivals! There’s an amazing San Francisco Street Food Fair in mid-August. Lastly, there is always the Treasure Island Flea Market, the last week of every month. The food trucks there are divine! I really can’t say enough about them! They also have fresh baked goods! I bought a box of fudge which I finished less than 24 hours! School should be first but having fun should also be a priority.

I'm a sophomore at UC Berkeley studying Cognitive Science and Computer Science. I enjoy hiking, eating, and movie watching.
