We Emerson students are known for our great sense of style. Sidewalks and hallways are our runways. Nothing beats the feeling of popping tags at the Garment District or finding a hidden gem in the sale section of Urban Outfitters. We’re fashion conscious students, and we’re okay with it.
While we all have a unique way of dressing, it’s almost impossible to not be influenced by what others around us are wearing. Flannels, high-waisted jeans and Converse quickly became the unofficial uniform in the fall. Trends travel and the Emerson aesthetic can be seen in our style.
As the school year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to do a recap of the clothes that defined campus fashion. Boylston Street style was strong. Here are the pieces that basically every Emerson fashionista had hanging in her closet.
1. High-waisted denim shorts
A must for warmer weather. Whether you got them from American Apparel or a thrift store, you rocked them.
Â
2. High-waisted jeans
We wear high-waisted denim all year round. These jeans are everything.
Â
3. Crop tops
The perfect tops to wear with our high-waisted jeans, shorts and skirts. You can’t go wrong with a crop top.
Â
4. Flannels
Worn wrapped around the waist or with a concert tee, the 2014-2015 school year style can be summed up by this closet staple. The more vintage and oversized, the better. Flannels don’t let you down.
Â
5. Oversized sweaters & cardigans
We like our knits oversized, cozy and comfy. Thrifted is preferred.
Â
6. Joggers
They’re not sweatpants—they’re fashion. Jogger pants are perfect for lazy days when you want to look put together, but still feel like you’re wearing pajamas.
Â
7. Patagonia jackets
Ah, Patagonia…the North Face’s cousin.
Â
8. Dr. Martens
So grunge, so 90s. One of the signature shoes of Emerson.
Â
9. Converse
Emerson’s other signature shoe. Converse enthusiasts have a growing collection in their dorm room. How did you get so many?
Â
10. Chokers
Velvet, tattoo, chord…so many varieties on so many necks. The choker was the most coveted accessory of the school year. Brandy Melville’s profits increased by 500%.
