Sana Fasihuddin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rowan chapter.

Hello, everyone! Meet Sana Fasihuddin, a 20 year old who just finished her junior year as a biology major/psychology and chemistry minor with a concentration in premed. Woah, that’s a mouthful. Right off the bat Her Campus Rowan is proud of Sana for working so hard and controlling so much of her academics. Good job, Sana!

Sana is originally from Hackensack, NJ. She loves spending time with people; talking to them, hearing their stories, and making them smile. She loves the feeling of really connecting with someone, and likes showing people she cares for them. Other than being a total people person, Sana also likes to draw, watch DIY videos and ty out the projects, shop, play sports, and engage in spontaneous activities such as jet skiing.

Some of her hobbies carry into what she enjoys doing with her friends; talking, eating, and trying new things is the agenda if you plan to hang out with Sana!

Her favorite TV show is Pretty Little Liars (WHO IS CHARLES?), and she loves the movie The Notebook. It’s a shame that Pretty Little Liars barely comes on during the Spring, which just happens to be Sana’s favorite season!

When I asked Sana what her favorite quote was, she said; ‘“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”’ She likes this quote because “often we forget to appreciate things in life because we look at the negatives, but there’s always a rainbow that we don’t see. There’s always something beautiful in life we just have to look harder for it! And if something isn’t meant to be it won’t happen because something better is planned for us.” What a great outlook on life, Sana!

Sana’s biggest dream is to become a doctor and provide countries in need with medical care for free. Her biggest aspirations include achieving her dream to be a doctor to make her parents smile, who have also dreamed of Sana’s career in medicine. She also wants to be a better person to not only benefit people but also herself.

Sana’s role model is her father, because he has struggled and worked hard to get Sana and her family to where they are today, and she could not be prouder of him!

Sana has quite a packed resume already. She used to volunteer for the Princeton medical center, worked for the Engineering program researching algae and the development of fuel, then she researched poison ivy vaccination, peanut allergy genes, and currently she is researching cancer treatments! Wow, Sana! Not only does she work in research, but she also works for the Dean for the College of Communications and Creative Arts. Way to blow us out of the water! Keep working hard.

Sana’s journey at Rowan dates back to 2009, when her freshman year guidance counselor in high school recommended Rowan to her. She liked the idea of the school because of the biology program, but loves the school because of many other reasons. “Rowan would be nothing without my besties! Anika, Edmond, Naheen, Naveen, Najma, Saad, Sabina, Shak, there’s so many I can’t even name! Every person has influenced me in many ways and has helped me become a better person! Thank you everyone!”

Sana wants incoming freshman at Rowan to have a similar experience, so she advises them to “be as involved as you can because freshmen year doesn’t come again! Try to focus on school work too; you’re paying tuition for a reason and freshmen year is usually the easiest so do well in your classes!”

Not only does Sana want to help incoming freshman at Rowan, but also teenage girls everywhere. She believes all teenage girls need to know physical appearance isn’t everything; “There will be so many people in the world that think you’re perfect. You have to love yourself first so other people will love you too.”

Advice Sana wishes she had received is “it’s not going to matter what you do now; you may make many mistakes but you have to learn from them and move on, not hold on to them. Mistakes are the best ways to learn about yourself, people, and life in general.”

Something extraordinary Sana has witnessed in the past year is the way parents care for their children, regardless of what their children do. She says “often people our age do not respect their parents as much as they should, but no matter what we do our parents are the people that will always have our backs.” Sana recently had an experience that made her truly realize how blessed she is to have wonderful parents, and she could not be more grateful.

Finally, we asked Sana what are some ways in which she would like to improve the world. She told us “I would want everyone to not be afraid of messing up and making mistakes because that’s the best way we learn.”

Sana, thank you for being such a kind, sweet, and amazing person. Good luck on achieving all your dreams, we are so proud!
