Campus Cutie BFF Edition: Hannah Siegel & Shelby Sullivan ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bates chapter.

This week’s Campus Cuties — Hannah Siegel ’15 (on left) and Shelby Sullivan ’15 have been best friends since they lived in the same first year dorm (Smith Hall), but not on first sight.

“Shel lived in the floor above me,” Hannah recalls. “I walked into her room being like ‘Hi, I’m Hannah!'”

Shelby adds, “I really liked her, but apparently I have a resting bitch face, so I came across as a tad rude. Hannah has called me out on it ever since. True sisterly love.”

These two beauties, who have lived together for the last two years, can often be spotted together around campus, almost always cracking up and maybe taking a selfie (or two), so it only seemed appropriate that they take on the gritty challenge of the Campus Cutie interview together as well.

Craziest thing you’ve ever done.

HS: Travelling to Mongolia by myself as a 15-year-old and living with a nomadic family for a month. The family sacrificed a horse for me, a boy caught me an eagle, it was a crazy yet beautiful experience for me. As hard as it was, I really appreciate myself for stepping out of my comfort zone at an early age.

SS: …If I told you, I’d have to kill you.

Favorite quote:

HS: “You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.” – Maya Angelou

SS: Anything Sylvia Plath…and “Don’t bend; don’t water it down; don’t try to make it logical; don’t edit your soul. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.” – Franz Kafka

What three songs would you take to a desert island?

HSFast Car by Tracy Chapman, Lay Me Down by Sam Smith feat. John Legend and Feeling Myself by Nicki Minaj feat. Beyonce.

SS: Some HozierLana-Del-ReyThe Beatles mix.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

HS: I would really love to go to New Zealand. I’ve been seeing all these pictures of Batesies that have gone abroad there and it looks absolutely stunning.

SS: Live – PARIS, travel – Grecian Islands.
