Bianca never fitted the social construction of “what a girl should be”. She always preferred cars over dolls, and most of her friends are guys. You may think of her as a tomboy, but she can surely astonish in a dress, as she did on the awards ceremony of the CinémaWie: Ingeniería para todos (refer to our Feature http://www.hercampus.com/school/uprm/empowering-celebration-uprm-women-e…). While being selected over other candidates is flattering and impressive in itself,  doing so before even starting college turns you into a promise of success for the future you are about to embark. Meet this week’s CAAMpus Celebrity, Bianca Dávila, the Mechanical Engineering freshman winner of the CinémaWie video contest. This empowering woman is already proving that ¡la ingeniería es para todos!

Name: Bianca Dávila Montero

Age: 17

Hometown: Caguas, P.R.

Year of Study: Freshmen

Major: INME (Mechanical Engineering)

HC: How did you found out about this opportunity?

Bianca: At High School I was part of a group that promoted women in engineering. There was a UPRM student that shared the link online about the contest and I thought “Why not give it a try?”

HC: Did you always knew you wanted to be an engineer?

Bianca: No. I thought I was going to be a physical therapist. But then as I started middle school and high school I grew fond to science, and that was when I knew it was engineering.

HC: Which are your career aspirations as you begin your educational journey at UPRM?

Bianca: I want to innovate, I want to stand out, and I am going to seize every opportunity I get to do so.

HC: What would you say to a girl in middle school or high school whom aspires to similar career goals as yours?

Bianca: I would tell her that she can’t be afraid, she can’t let herself be intimidated or discouraged.
