Things to Look Forward to for Fall
Â
Ah, yes. After months of waiting, September is finally here. It is almost fall. Yet itÂ
Â
seems Clemson hasn’t quite figured it out yet. With temperatures still in the high 80sÂ
Â
and girls still roaming about in tank tops and sandals, it’s hard to believe that fallÂ
Â
could be just around the corner. So for those of you looking longingly at your fallÂ
Â
wardrobe like I am, here are some things to look forward to so you can trudgeÂ
Â
through the last heat waves of summer and get to good ol’ Clemson fall.
Â
1. Pumpkin Spice
Â
I’m not even a big fan of pumpkin, but there is something about seeing girlsÂ
Â
walk around with cups of Pumpkin Spice Lattes and Pumpkin Spice candlesÂ
Â
in store windows that in undeniably fall.
Â
Â
2. Duck Boots
Â
A southern staple, there is never a short supply of Duck Boots waddlingÂ
Â
around campus. They are perfect for Clemson fall weather because they canÂ
Â
withstand both the rain and the snow (and we never quite know which oneÂ
Â
we are going to get). Maybe it’s time I finally invest in some of these…
Â
3. Curling up with a blanket without feeling like you’re in a sauna.
Â
One of my favorite things to do is to snuggle up under a fuzzy blanket with aÂ
Â
cup of tea and read a good book. Yet with the weather still at mid-summerÂ
Â
levels, I’ve had to settle for sweating in a tank top and shorts.
Â
Â
4. Blanket scarves
Â
On my roommate’s recent trip to Ireland, she came back with a tale aboutÂ
Â
blankets wrapped around people’s necks. But they were SCARVES. A mustÂ
Â
have for winter, we are hoping the trend hits the states very soon.
Â
5. Halloween
Â
Maybe I’m the only dork around here, but nothing gets me more excited thanÂ
Â
Halloween. In fact, I could write pages just on why I love Halloween. ButÂ
Â
whether you want to be a slutty pumpkin (How I Met Your Mother, anyone?)Â
Â
or just sit at home, eat candy, and watch Hocus Pocus, Halloween is a time ofÂ
Â
year that everyone can look forward to.
Â
Â
6. Sweaters
Â
A comfy sweater can make your day just that much brighter. I know I haveÂ
Â
several just sitting in my closet, waiting for the day they can make theirÂ
Â
appearance. They can be casual or cute, and most importantly, cozy.
Â
7. Colorful Leaves
Â
There’s something about leaves changing colors that inspires everyone. AfterÂ
Â
so many months of nothing but greenery, the hues of red, orange, and yellowÂ
Â
are a welcome change. Plus, how can you not love the satisfying crunch ofÂ
Â
stepping on leaves on your way to class?
Â
Â
Â
8. Hot Coffee
Â
I am tired of having to order my coffee on ice. I like to be able to sip on a hotÂ
Â
drink with a scarf wrapped around my neck, and not be afraid of passing outÂ
Â
from heatstroke.
Â
9. Flannel Shirts
Â
For both guys and girls, flannel shirts are one of the best things about fall.Â
Â
The cozy material paired with a plaid pattern screams “It’s time! Fall isÂ
Â
here!”. With an homage to lumberjacks everywhere, flannel shirts are anÂ
Â
autumn favorite.
Â
Â
Â
10. Clemson Football
Â
There’s nothing better than a Clemson football game. Although the seasonÂ
Â
has already started, the best games are yet to come. The ones where youÂ
Â
bundle up and bring a blanket along to cheer for Deshaun. The ones whereÂ
Â
you don’t sweat through your dress or have to leave early because it’s so hot.Â
Â
The best games are the ones where you can huddle with your friendsÂ
Â
watching the greatest team on Earth. It’s always a wonderful thing to seeÂ
Â
your breath while chanting “C-L-E-M-S-O-N”.
Â
Â
So there you go. A few things to keep your going through the last few weeks of
Â
summer heat. Although summer has been great, it is high time we hang up theÂ
Â
bathing suits and grab our fuzzy socks. Hurry up autumn, we’re waiting.
