How does it feel to be featured as a campus cutie?
I’m very flattered and it shocked me [laughs].
What are the main things you look for in a girl?
I take dating very seriously because I’ve only dated one person before and that was 4 years ago. I guess the biggest quality I look for in a girl is that she has to be my best friend. I need to be myself around her and don’t feel like I have to perform or act a certain way around her. I need somebody to love me as much as I love her.
Do you have a celebrity crush?
I have a few but probably Jennifer Aniston. I grew up watching Friends so someone like her. I like women who are really down to earth and who are themselves.
What is your ideal date?
I’ve come to realize that my ideal date is not like everyone elses. I like going to dinner and talking to a girl. I’m not trying to sound cheesy, but just some place very simple so I can just talk to her and get to know her.
What’s the most memorable thing you’ve ever done?
I’m a musician so I got to go to Nashville for about two weeks and it was basically a music camp. It was a crash course in the industry and I got to hang around with some big named people around the city. I met such amazing people through that experience. Another one is that I met my church community about 4 years ago and getting to meet them and spending time with them is amazing because these are people that I now call family and trust my life with.
You say you’re a musician, are you in a band on campus?
I am, it’s called Jeremiah Wilde. I’ve been in that for about 2 years now. I’m a drummer. I’ve played the drums since I was 12 years.
How did you come up with the name Jeremiah Wilde?
Our front man has very vivid dreams and every dream he has he can remember it once he wakes up. Long story short, he had a dream that he was in a desert and was thirsty and hungry and he came across a hillside and he sees a crowd of people on top of the hill and they’re calling him up to the hill. He climbs up this epic mountain and gets to the very top of the hill and there’s nobody there. He looked down at what he climbed. The prophet Jeremiah was a huge influence on his dream and his faith and the Wilde meaning a “call to the wild.”
What kind of music do you play?
Alternative rock/Indie.
What’s your favorite food?
I love food and have a very big appetite. Pizza is my vice. I could eat my weight in pizza [laughs].
Why did you come to Winthrop?
I received an associate’s degree at York Tech and then I wanted to go into humanities but decided to go into communications because I love to be around people. I did research about the best schools in South Carolina for that program and USC and Winthrop came up as the only accredited schools for communications. I decided Winthrop because it was cheaper and because I only live 25 minutes away in Charlotte. I told my family I would do it for one year to see what happens because I was never good at school, but something clicked in college here at Winthrop and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
What do you plan on doing after you graduate?
Getting a big boy job! [laughs] I want to get a job and go travel. I have a huge itch for traveling. I would love to go to France and England because my ancestors are from England. It would be cool to go there to get in touch with my roots.
What is your dream job and where is your dream place to live?
I don’t necessarily have a dream job but I guess whatever the job it is would have to work with hands on people and being able to listen to people and communicate. I love listening to people’s stories because we’re all unique and have different stories. I think it’s a really great craft to have to be able to sit down and listen to people. So I think whatever job I have would have to be where I have to be around people. As far as dream location, I’ve always wanted to live in the mountains but I’ve noticed not too many people share that dream of mine. So when I do move to the mountains, I would love to take everybody that I love with me to a very secluded house in the North Carolina.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Easy-going, intentional and loyal.
What are the most important things to you?
I have three things: faith, family and humanity. We’re all in this together so I want to treat people the way that I would want to be treated.
What is something that nobody knows about you?
Well my family knows this, but I was partially deaf until about 3 years old.
