An Open Letter To Our New Sisters

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C of C chapter.

Dear New Members,

Welcome home! Congratulations on joining one of the best sisterhoods around. You may not know me yet, but that’s okay. I’m sure you’ve been completly overwhelmed in between trying to find a big, and going on all those coffee dates with sisters. You’ll get into the swing of things soon enough, and then you’ll know everyone! I remember standing where you are now, all fresh faced and wide eyed, ready for whatever the older member would throw at me (not literally, that would be hazing). As a senior, I may not get to know you that well, but I wanted to share with you some of the reasons I love being a soroity woman. These past years have slipped by much quicker than I thought they would, so enjoy every minute with your sisters. These girls are going to play a huge role in your life; They will become your best friends, introduce you to you s/o, and be the ones who are there for you, no matter what.

There will be good and bad times while you are in a sorority. Don’t stress too much, there will always be new people to meet, new friends to be made, and new sisters to hang out with. You are a part of a thriving, growing, sisterhood. Make sure to positively contribute to your legacy, even when others seem to be working against it. Be the sister that the new members aspire to be, and that older members admire!

So you’ve signed your bid, you’ve pledged, and now it’s time to look forward to the future. You have so many great things coming your way! I’m sure you’re esctatic to meet your big! She’ll be one of your closest friends, even if you don’t think so right away. You have Initiation, where you’ll learn all of our secrets and hundreds of years worth of traditions. You also should look forward to all of the great events, sisterhood bonding time, and so much more!

I’m so happy you’re part of this chapter. You’re going to do great things.

Lots of Love,An older sister
