This week’s Campus Cutie is sure to make you laugh out loud and make your heart twinge. Meet Benjamin Castin!

Benjamin, or Ben as his friends like to call him, is a sophomore health science major. He’s 19 years old and is a Melbourne, Florida, native. His hobbies include shooting hoops, lifting weights and reading classic literature. Ben’s favorite book is Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli and his absolute favorite flick is Friday After Next.

Ben said his longest relationship lasted for five months, but he is currently single. Ben says his idea of a perfect date would be a nice romantic picnic on the beach. He jokingly said that the one deal-breaker in his relationship would be if his girlfriend could beat him at basketball. He also says his ideal girl is Beyoncé, and then continued to state, “I’m coming for you, J.”

When it comes to things he can’t stand, Ben’s biggest pet peeve is when people stare. His favorite memory so far in college was his first football game during his freshman year. On gamedays, you can find Ben tailgating (“very hard,” he added). In his spare time, Ben likes to volunteer by playing basketball with elementary school kids.

Ben also has an adventurous side. He says the one place he would love to travel to eventually is outer space. If Ben could have dinner with any person, dead or alive, it would be Jesus. He says that his role model is his father. Ben hopes to go to medical school after graduation and eventually become a neurosurgeon. You can catch him at Southwest Recreation Center on most days or heading to class on campus.
