It’s that time of the year once again. The fashion world goes into a frenzy as the beginning of the semi-annual event commences and starts the wondrous month of world-renown style. Beginning in New York City, designers such as Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Diane von Furstenberg, Vera Wang, Victoria Beckham and more walk their collections down the runway to show the world what fashion has to offer and the new potential trends for spring 2016. Here are some of the collections.

40 years have now passed since the infamous wrap dress was introduced to the world. In celebration of its anniversary, Diane von Furstenberg went back to her roots and tied it in to her looks of today. In almost all of her pieces an insinuated waistline occurred highlighting the female models slim midriffs. A multiple occurring trend also seen in her show, other than the tight waistlines, were flouncy and patch worked floral print dresses. All in all the show was dedicated to her four decades of experience in the trade of fashion and commemorating how she got her original start in the business.

“Fresh and carefree.” That’s how Victoria Beckham describes her new collection of clothing. Mostly crisp and white with the occasional gingham or “surf” print Victoria is distancing herself from her old style of fashion. Sophistication is the key to her 2016 collection from her flats, slip dresses and just above the ankle lengths.

Givenchy

Staying within the minimalistic colors of black and white Givenchy tapped into the trends of lace, slip dresses and tailored pants complimented with tuxedo jackets. Always knowing how much skin to show, the line was filled with lace and/or sheer accents that turned any outfit from subtle to sexy. Also, Givenchy was able to relay a message of mourning considering their show took place on the 14th anniversary of 9/11.

Another dedication to one of the brands favorite trends, the slip dress influenced this year’s collection for Calvin Klein. Filled with loose and sometimes sheer dresses, a taste of grunge graced the catwalk. From the occasional oversized outfit to the extra overhang and chains a fresh new take of the dress was refreshing. It was even more of a surprise to see prints of flowers materialized on almost everything in the collection.

Vera Wang

Far from the designs of her wedding dresses this collection branches out to an athletic minimalistic feel. Showing tasteful amounts of skin she was able to easily master the combination of femininity and masculinity within her line. By far my favorite collection of New York Fashion Week, Vera Wang perfectly paired bandeaux and V-cut tops with high-waisted trousers or briefs and the occasional trench coat to make all of her models not only sexy but powerful.

New York Fashion Week has officially come to a close and an abundance of trends will certainly come from the runway in the near future. So next time you go out to shop you might want to keep a look out for a nice slip dress, some lace or a good structured trench coat. As for now, London’s calling!
