HC PSU Fundraiser: Help Us Let Girls Learn

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

When you go to one of the most prestigious universities in the country, it’s easy to take the opportunities you’re given for granted. But when you’re one of the 62 million girls who are not able to enroll in school, a quality education becomes an absolute blessing. This is the reality of adolescent girls worldwide who are being denied the proper education they rightfully deserve. And it’s time we do something about it.

Launched on March 3, 2015, the Peace Corps’ Let Girls Learn Program – in aid of the U.S. government’s commitment to the Let Girls Learn Initiative – has been supporting community-led solutions to expand access to education and empowerment for girls around the world. By empowering leaders, working hand-in-hand with communities and increasing the impact of Peace Corps Volunteers, they have already made great strides in breaking down the barriers to girls’ education and putting lasting solutions in place in the communities they serve. Last year, over 82,000 girls and young women around the world participated in leadership camps and youth clubs led by Peace Corps Volunteers.

But they’re not done yet.

The members of Her Campus Penn State will be hosting a car wash this Sunday, Sept. 27 from 4-7 p.m. at Advance Auto Parts on 1602 N Atherton St. The cost is $5 per car and ALL proceeds will be donated to Let Girls Learn.

We all know the challenges women of all ages still face in our modern world, but educating each other and providing the resources necessary to succeed is the first step in creating a lasting change. Help us support this worthy cause and make a difference in the lives of young girls across the globe through education and empowerment.

See you Sunday!
