Ugochi Nriaka

Chineze Mbamali Student Contributor, University at Albany (SUNY)
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Albany chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.

Where are you from?

I’m from Rockland County, but nobody knows where that is.  It’s like a 45 minute drive from Manhattan, and a suburban area.

Also, I’m Nigerian-American, specifically Igbo.

What is your major, year, and expected graduation date?

I’m majoring in Communication, with an intended Business and Music minor, and I plan to graduate in May of 2018.

What are you involved in on campus?

I’m apart of ASA(the African Student Association,) as part of their Member at large committee, along with involvement in Phenomenal Voices, TheOdyssey (Ualbany edition) as a writer, Grey & Associates internship, and I recently got into Serendipity, an on campus all-girl acapella group.

Ever find yourself pressed for time?

I’ve actually learned how to manage my time pretty well, and that way I’m never really stressed out.  I’m big on ‘to-do,’ lists for the day, it keeps me organized and on track.

How was singing in front of 400 people at the last Phenomenal Voices show?

It was nerve-wracking before I went on stage.  We practice in front of each other so I was used to them- but performing in front of a crowd that size was a change.  It was a good feeling though, I wasn’t nervous while singing- and I can’t wait to do it again.

What do your non-school related hobbies consist of?

I have natural hair, so I always have time aside for that.  Also, I work out, and write for leisure.

What are some of your highlights being a UAlbany student?

Establishing the group of friends that I have, meeting people with different talents.  This school is so diverse- I was able to meet people with the same interests as me- regardless of race.

I know it’s early- but, what do you plan to do once you graduate?

As of right now, I want to find a television station/broadcasting network as a first to build my career from. Also, music has always been a big part of my life, so I want to do freelance singing gigs on the side.
