College has its ups and downs. Sometimes the food isn’t so great, the workload is unbearable, and not to mention shower shoes. But one of the best things about college is how it can really make someone appreciate the small things in life. Every day things at home become novelties to a college student. Below is a list of 8 ways to make a college student’s day!

.) Dogs, dogs, dogs. It does not matter how large, small, cute or homely it is, dogs are the most popular kids on campus. Seeing a dog will immediately brighten any student’s day. Many students haven’t seen their own dogs for weeks soi brings a feeling of happiness and comfort. Even cat people will run for a quick interaction with a dog. For dog owners this is the ultimate self esteem booster, seeing as they’re sure to attract as many as 5 kids at a time. Students can often spot dogs miles away so a quick PSA to dog owners: if you’re planning on taking your pup for a “quick” walk, take the back roads!

.) Chipotle. Everyone can relate to the feeling of excitement when their only friend with a car on campus texts in the squad’s group message, “Chipotle anyone?” Any day avoiding the dining hall is a good one, even if it means spending your last ten dollars.

.) Coffee. They say money can’t buy happiness but a cup of coffee is less than three dollars. And in a lot of college student’s eyes, that’s enough. Especially when campus is crawling with coffee shops. Research (my experience) proves it’s the only cure for 8 a.m. blues.

.) “It’s free.” Two words. 7 letters. Say it and that smile on any student’s face is yours. Everyone knows the word “free” is golden to a college student. We live for free things. Live free or die, right? Anything from a tee shirt to a sticker, we will take it, run with it, and turn it into something incredible. To you it may be just a tee shirt but to us it’s a whole assortment of things. It can be a blanket, a pillow case, a coozie. Oh a free sticker? I think you mean a free decoration, a free stain coverer, even a patch for a hole. We are the future of innovation but for right now we’re on a budget.

.) Snow days. There is nothing like waking up to an email that begins with, “Due to the intensity and predicted nature of this latest storm the University of New Hampshire-Durham Campus will be curtailing operations, and suspending normal operations effective….” Nothing turns a college student into a 5 year old quicker than a heavy snow fall.

.) Finding money. Every college student has been there and if they say otherwise they’re lying. When one minute you’re cleaning your dorm room and the next your breaking it down on your dance floor (rug) because you just found five dollars. That surge of happiness is real and there is nothing like the feeling a college student gets when they proudly slide that five dollar bill into their wallet, where there’s sure to be plenty of space. The value of a dollar sky rockets for a college student. It’s no joke we are actually extremely broke.

.) 75 degree weather. The first day the temperature hits 75 degrees after the dead of winter, or a long, hot summer is undisputably going to be an incredible day. You can finally walk through campus without sweating and without getting hypothermia. The campus is crawling with happy people, sitting outside, smiling, and not to mention 75 degrees is absolute perfection when it comes to darties.
