If you’re fond of lace and leather and all things beautifully and twistedly feminine, then you are probably already spending your weekly paychecks (or summer savings, I see you) on Free People. Their frilly tunics, fuzzy coats, distressed denim, and buttery-soft leather jackets are mesmerizing but the trek to Prudential Mall is definitely not. I can only take the B line so often, and because living on Newton completely ruined the BC bus system for me, I pretty much refuse to take any line BUT the B line. It stops every five feet and takes at least 35 minutes to even reach Copley, but you bear the grimy seats and thick MBTA air for the glories of the in-store Free People experience.
It’s worth it…almost. The Free People in Prudential Mall is tiny, and the ever-rising prices of URBN brands means that there will be at least six customers stuffed into the tiny closet sized sale-section at any given time.
Let’s be honest. You would still go and you would still buy something because it’s Free People and it’s beautiful, but now, being broke and looking effortlessly flawless is now only 1.2 miles away. Free People just opened its largest store in the area right in Chestnut Hill Square—a.k.a. next to Wegmans, Soul Cycle, and Anthropologie. The ginormous slice of heaven opened up last Friday and the store itself is more aesthetically pleasing than I ever could have imagined. Gold-dusted feathers and leaves hung from rustic branches and window stencils filtered the morning sunlight. Have I mentioned how pretty it is?
If the sheer beauty of it all doesn’t inspire a quick trip down the road, then maybe the store’s contents will. When I say that the store is ginormous, I don’t only mean the initial selling floor. Chestnut Hill Square’s Free People comes complete with a dreamy shoe room—yes, just shoes—and an even dreamier Intimates room. Plus a roomy sale section and more than enough dressing rooms.
With cozy knits and funky overalls, there’s something for everyone at this new and improved location, and they’re open until 8pm on weeknights and Saturdays which leaves you plenty of time to Uber over after classes. I’m happy for your closets and your self-esteem, and I’m sorry for your wallets. Happy shopping!
