Edible Information: Top 5 Breakfast Spots Near XU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Xavier chapter.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? It’s only right that Xavier students know the best places near campus to grab their early meal.

1. Blue Bird Restaurant

Hours: 7 am to 8 pm

Address:  4629 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45212

Miles from Campus: 1.6

Food Recommendation: “The Breakfast Special” $6.90

If you want a good home-style breakfast without breaking the bank, Bluebird Restaurant is the way to go. Not only do they have breakfast that will remind you of home, but they also offer a student discount!

2. Sugar n’ Spice

Hours: 7 am to 3 pm

Address: 4381 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45229

Miles from Campus: 0.8

Food Recommendation: Full order of “Chocolate Chip Wispy Thin Pancakes” $5

Like Bluebird, Sugar n’ Spice also offers an “at home” feel to the food.  The wispy thin pancakes are a house favorite, but, if you are really hungry, the omelets are MASSIVE. The waitress will hand you a bucket of rubber duckies before your meal comes; take one home so you can remember the taste of that wonderful pancake each time you look at it.

3. Taste of Belgium

Hours: Mon/Sun – 7am to 3pm Tues-Thurs – 7 am to 10 pm Fri/Sat – 7am to 11pm

Address: 3825 Edwards Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45209

Miles from Campus: 2.2

Food Recommendation: Waffle & Chicken $12

With an original menu and an enthusiastic wait staff, Taste of Belgium is a great place to grab breakfast. Known for their small but delicious waffles, Taste of Belgium offers much more. When you decide the waffles are worth the hype, you can even purchase a bag to take home.

4. The Echo

Hours: 6am – 3pm

Address: 3510 Edwards Rd Cincinnati, OH 45208

Miles from Campus: 2.4

Food Recommendation: “Belgian Bird” $10

Echo Restaurant is a typical small, loud and busy diner. Even though there is a small amount of space to wait for a table (while you smell amazing food), there is a giant menu. From Glier’s Goetta to a healthy protein packed entrée, Echo even has a section called “Hangover Helper.” If that doesn’t scream college students, we don’t know what does!

5. Sleepy Bee

Hours: Mon-Fri – 7am to 2:30pm Sat/Sun – 8am to 3pm

Address: 3098 Madison Road, Cincinnati, OH 45209

Miles from Campus: 2.7

Food Recommendation: “Queen City Bee” $10.50

Sleepy Bee Café is a small restaurant that serves locally grown food, free range chicken and even has a garden down the street!  The service is fast and the food comes out steaming hot.  This is a great brunchy spot to hang with the girls and eat some amazing food. It is the more expensive of the restaurants on the list, but the food is well worth it!
