How Guys React When You’re a Sports Fan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

This one is for all the Collegiettes out there who are sports fanatics!

From my stand point, there are three types of reactions you will receive from males if you ever reveal your love for a sport or team to them. I consider myself a die-hard Blackhawks fan and boy have I encountered all three types:

Type A: Do you even know what you are talking about? If so, lets ask questions no one knows to test your knowledge!

Here is a little breakdown on how the conversation starts:

Person: “Oh, hey, nice Blackhawks shirt…are you even a fan?”

Me: “Actually I love the Hawks! Do you?”

Person: “Of course. Lets test your knowledge to see what you really know”

Me: “Go ahead! I know my stuff.”

Person: “Sure you do. Right before Patrick Kane scored the game winning goal in OT back in 2010, how many breaths did he take the entire game right after puck drop? You have 30 seconds. Go.”

WHAT! Do you even know that?

Definitely not!

Type B: Marry me.

Sometimes you will run into the type that any sports fanatic sees as a plus; a girl who doesn’t hate sports. Sooner or later Collegiettes, you will run into someone who is going to fall in love with you for your knowledge of sports facts. And when you do, challenge his sports facts. (Just don’t be as terrible as Type A).

The seasons are changing again! Fall has started meaning one thing: Football.

Football will bring Fantasy Football, and if you are the kick a** type who is trying to take down all the men who think they drafted the best team ever, you probably just earned some street cred.

Shoutout to all the Bears fans out there: stay strong; I feel your pain.

Type C: What is sports?

Either way Collegiette sports fanatics, stay strong and enjoy your team or season. You are a rare type indeed, so strut with your jerseys and chant as loud as you can! The best fans are the ones who stick through thick and thin with their team. Don’t let anyone stop you from cheering for your team! Good luck this season, y’all!
