5 Best Places to Road Trip for Fall Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

With fall break just around the corner, it’s time to give yourself a break from the stress of midterms and treat yourself to a weekend away! So here are a couple of suggestions for people who are in search of adventure.

1. Boulder, CO

Known for beautiful scenery and lively college campuses, Boulder, Colorado is a perfect place to road trip with friends over the long break! About 7-8 hours away, Boulder offers over 200 miles of biking and hiking, and Pearl St. Mall, a popular location for newcomers.

2. Newport, CA

A common spring break location, California would be the perfect fall break getaway to stay warm before the snow starts to set. Newport has the perfect weather and so many things to do, including going to the beach and walking the boardwalk. You can shop, go to low-key local restaurants, and take a day trip to Balboa Island! They also have bikes that you can rent and explore around the ferry.

3. Portland, OR

Portland, Oregon is one of my personal favorites because there is delicious food, funky bookstores, and the best hikes of the Northwest! Downtown Portland is especially cool because it is a great place to people watch and visit cute coffee shops. Another place you couldn’t miss would be taking a day trip to the coast with your best friends. If there’s ever a time to chase waterfalls, it’s now before winter rolls around!

4. Moab, UT

Moab, Utah is the perfect place for those of you who do not want to travel too far. Known for breathtaking outdoor scenery, Moab is a close drive to red rock paradise! Whether you hike the famous Arch or just try the local restuarants on main street, you will have good time! Take these moments of spontaneity to do something you’ve always wanted to do, like skydive with your best friends, or sleep under the stars.

5. Flaming Gorge, WY

For you outdoorsy people who are looking to get one last camping trip in, Flaming Gorge is the place to go! There is variety of summer activities such as kayaking, water rafting, mountain biking and hiking! Never a dull moment at the beautiful Gorge so consider taking the fall break weekend to check it out yourself.

Have a safe and fun fall break, collegiettes!
